Sept. 20, 1932. CALDOR 1,878,755
BATHING BRAssIERE Filed June 2 1. 1950 Earl 5. 0r,
Patented Sept. 20, 1932 UNITED STATES mm. a. cannon, or raw Yoax, n. I.
' narnme mmssman I Application filed June 21, 1980. Serial Io. 462,885.
The present invention relates to bathing brassieres and consists in the combinations and arrangements of elements hereinafter described and particularly set forth in the ac- 6} companying claim.
The purpose of the invention is to provlde an article of this character which embodies all of the desirable features of artistry and will give warmth to the wearer. The article employs the minimum number of parts in its manufacture and as a finished product 7 is of the utmost simplicity.
A further purpose of the invention is to produce a bathing brassiere which may be worn with the greatest degree of comfort and is of such design of construction that a reasonably large pocket device is provided for the carrying ofa handkerchief or the like.
The invention is shown by way of illustration in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the brassiere complete, and;
Figure 2 a top plan view thereof. Referring to the construction'in further detail the article consists of two similar nonstretchable and upstanding triangular pieces of fabric, e. g. woolen, 3 and 4, having for their greater portion substantially the outline of a triangle and along one side edge so each of said fabric portions has at its rear corner an appreciably long extended part 5 as is clearlyindicated in Figure 1. Thus, in the finished brassiere each fabric portion is disposed to extend upwardly and rearward- I ly as shown, the triangular portions covering the breasts and the extended parts covering those parts of the body immediately in rear of the breast, so as to rotection and warmt v The two fabric portions are provided with plaits or darts and are united in overlapping relation at the front and there secured by a diagonal line of stitching 6 and along the bottom edge by a suitable tape 7 The binding tape 7 extends along the full lower marginal edge of the two fabric portions 3 and 4 and at their respective ends are connected with two strips of elastic tape 8 and 9'having l0, looped members 10 for attachment to the two opening line 14 thereof. It
provide the maximum buttons 11 that are secured to portion 7 as shown.
The marginal side ed es of the fabric portions 3 and 4 are simi arly bound by tape straps 12 which extend for the full length thereof. And the overlapping of the front corner ortions of the pieces 3 and 4 rovides the poo et 13 to which access is had a ong the will be'understood, of course, the pocket is otherwise closed by the line of stitches 6 and the bindmg tape 7. The stitches 6 connect the diagonal edge of the inner corner portion to the the front tape outer corner portion and the diagonal edge of the outer corner portion is free of connection with the mner corner portion so as to provide the entrance 14 for the pocket. In its application to the wearer the binding ta'pe 7 together with the elastic tapes or cords 8 and 9 form the body encircling portlon of the article andtwo similar shoulder straps 15 are provided. Each of these shoulder straps is of elastic material similar to the members '8 and 9, and connects with the fabr c member at the top and rearwardly extendlng portion as indicated at 16 and 17 respectively.
It will be understood that the invention as herein disclosed is not limited to the details of construction shown and described as these may be varied without departing from the sp1r1t of the invention as defined by the claim. The fabric isso cut in'the making of the article that all strains are on the bias thereof, thus giving maximum wear, and the marglnal braid bindings take up all pulls to WhlCll the same is subjected.
What is claimed as new is: i bathing brassiere comprisin warmth glvmg members having triangu ar breast covermg portions and having elongated parts extending from the rear corners of the breast covermg portions to cover those parts of the body immediately in rear of the breasts, 9. body encircling portion formed of a tape strip andelastic members connected at the respective ends thereof, the breastcovering portions and their elongated parts being secured to and extending upwardly from the tape strip, the breast covering portions hav- 10c ing their front corners arranged in overlapping relation to provide a pocket, the lower edges of said front corners being secured to the ta strip and the diagonal edge of the 5 inner ont corner being secured to the outer front corner to close the pocket, the diagonal edge of the outer front corner being free of connection with the inner front corner to provide an entrance for the pocket, tape strips secured to the upper edges of the breast covering portions and their elongated parts, means for securin the 'elastic members detachably to the sai first tape strip, and shoulder straps secured to the upper corners of 15 the breast covering ortions and to the rear ends of the elon te parts of said portions.
