Sept. 20, 1932 P. A. EYRICK ELECTRIC TERMINAL CLIP Filed June 19. 1929 I nve 711170;.- efl.Ewiozc ,5 MVQP/ QPh/I ZI/ y Patented Sept. 20, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PHILIP A. EYRICK, OI! CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOB TO NATIONAL COM- PANY, INC., OF MALDEN, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION OF MASSACHUSETTS ELECTRIC TERMINAL CLIP Application filed June 19,
My invention aims to provide improvements in electric terminal clips.
In the drawing which illustrates a preferred embodiment of my invention Figure 1 is a perspective view of a terminal clip as it appears when connecting a conductor wire to the grid contact of a vacuum tube;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the clip; and Fig. 3 is a plan :iew of the clip.
Referrin now to the embodiment of my invention iilustrated by the drawing, I have shown a so-called grid clip which is par ticularly adapted for making an electrical contact between a conductor wire and the grid contact located on top of a vacuum tube used in wireless and like apparatus.
It is to be understood, however, that a clip coming within the scope of my invention may have other equally important uses as an electric terminal clip.
The particular clip selected for illustrative purposes is formed from a single piece of sheet metal and has a substantially continuous yieldable sleeve portion 1. The ends of the metal extend from the sleeve portion at one side (Fig. 3) to provide a pair of finger pieces 2 and 3. The finger piece 2 is provided with a slot 4 which extends part way into the sleeve, as shown in Fig. 2. The finger 3 is about the same width as the slot 4 through which it passes and has its end bent in substantial parallelism with the finger 2 (Fig. 3) and in spaced relation thereto so that when the fingers are squeezed toward each other the sleeve will be expanded.
1 Any form of means may be carried by the finger 2 for receiving and holdin the wire conductor 5, but I prefer'to provi e an integral U4shaped extension 6. Thus the wire 5 may be soldered in place between the leg ortions of the U and the legs may then be cut to hold the wire in place in the usual manner well known to those skilled in the art.
The device which I have described is readily attachable to and detachable from the con- 7 secured to the top of the vacuum tube a part of which is shown) by merely t e two finger ieces 2 and 3 toward enlarge the diameter tact 8 (only pressing each other to expand an 1929. Serial No. 872,001.
of the sleeve 1. When the finger pieces are released the sleeve contracts and makes a gripping engagement with the contact member.
The device illustrated and described is simple, inexpensive, durable and may be easily and quickly applied. When attached to a contact member it makes a firm contact with a substantial area of the. contact member thereby affording a very desirable electricai connection. a
While I have illustrated and described a preferred embodiment of my invention, I do not wish to belimited thereby, because the scope of my invention is best defined in the following claims.
I claim 1. An electric terminal clip pressed from sheet metal and having a substantially con-' tinuous cylinder-like yieldable sleeve of substantial length and being in the form of a circular loop for substantially continuous contact with a contact member, and a pair of spaced finger pieces connected to said sleeve, one of said finger pieces having a slot, and the other finger piece having its end extending through said slot thereby to provide squeeze-operated means whereby when the finger pieces are pressed toward each other the sleeve will be expanded to permit engagement with and disengagement from a contact member.
2. A one-piece electric terminal clip formed from a strip of sheet metal and having a cylindrical sleeve portion 1 formed in the said strip of sheet metal, a finger piece 2 formed by one end of said strip and extending from the sleeve and having a slot 4, a second finger piece 3 formed from the other end of said strip having its free end extending through said slot and bent in substantial arallelism to the finger 2 and a U-shaped portion formed at the end of the finger 2 all as and for the purposes illustrated and described.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
PHILIP A. EYRIOK.
