The main object of this invention is to provide an improved temporary binder which is Well adapted for holding loose sheets, circu-' lars and thelike, maybe formed of very light material and, if desired, flexible material and at the-same time isdurable and the parts retained in proper relation.

. In the embodiment illustrated in the acoompanying drawing, the covers 1, 1, the
binding members 2 and 3 and the back 4 are formed of a single sheet of flexible material folded upon itself to form the binding members. The bottom binding member 2 is provided with posts 5, these posts being provided with flange-like base members 6 at their lower ends and with clamping collars 7 which secure the posts to the binding member 2. The outer ends of the posts are reduced providing shoulders 8, annular grooves 9 being 0 formed in these reduced portions providing heads 10. The top binding member 3 has holes 11 therein adapted to receive the ends of the posts.
Locking slides 12 formed of thin sheet metal are mounted on this top binding member and have longitudinal slots 13 therein with central enlargements 14 adapted to be brought into aliuement with the holes 13 to receive the ends of the post and permit the slides being shifted longitudinally to engage the edges of the-slots in the grooves 9 of the posts or below the heads 10, thereby locking the binding members together.
The slides are 'engageably supported by means'of the headed studs .15 engaging the slots 13, one of the studs being positioned to constitute a stop, see the dotted'position of the'slides, facilitating the positioning of the slides to receive or permit disengagement of the posts.. The studs l5and the posts constitute, means for retaining the parts of the sheet forming the binding'membersin their foldedposition. 1
--I' provide a transfer bar 16 with pins'17 adapted to engage holes-18 in thebody of the sheet 19. These transfer bars have holes 20 adapted to receive-the reduced ends of the post'5 resting on the shoulders thereof, the transfer barbeing arranged on the inner side of the top bindingmemb'er 3; The pins '17 c oact;with the posts 5 in supporting the pin in the hinder, the bar 16 being formed of metal and constituting a reinforcing member for the binder. This is a desirable feature when the covers and'binding members are made up of a sheet of flexible material as in the structure illustrated.
. With the parts thus arranged I have found it entirely practical to form the cover, binding members'and back as illustrated of a sheet of heavy paper, such a binder being adapted for many uses.
My improved binders are very economical to produce, are light and compact in structure and at the same time are durable.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A temporary binder comprising a pair of cover members and a back formed of a single piece of flexible material folded upon itself to form a pair of binding members, a plurality of posts carried by one of said binding members and having a connection thereto for maintaining said member in folded relation and adapted to project through openings provided in a group of sheets and in the other of said binding members, said posts having reduced ends forming shoulders and with annular grooves adjacent to the extremities thereof, a transfer bar detachably associated with the other of said binding members and having openings therein adapted to receive the reduced ends of said 5 posts and to abut the shoulders formed thereon, and locking members movably mounted on said last-mentioned binding member and having a connection thereto for maintaining said member in folded relation, said locking members having slots formed therein having enlarged portions through which the reduced ends of said posts are adapt-ed to project, and reduced portions the edges of which are adapted to enter the annular grooves provided on said posts when the locking members are moved into locking position relative to said posts.
2. A temporary binder comprising a pair of cover members and a back formed of a single piece of flexible material folded upon itself to form a pair of binding members, a plurality of posts carried by one of said binding members and having a connection thereto-for maintaining said'meinber in folded relation and adapted to project. through openings provided in a group of sheets and in the other of said binding members, said posts having reduced ends forming shoulders and with annulargrooves adjacent to the extremities thereof, a transfer bar detachablyassociated with' tlie: other of said binding. members and having openings therein adaptedto receive the reducedendsof said posts and to f abut; theshoulders formed thereon, 1 locking? member's slidably mounted on" said" lash-mentioned binding member and having tion and disengaged from said posts in another position, studs extending through said locking slides and the fold portions of said other binding member provided with heads at opposite ends retaining said fold port-ions together and slidably retaining said locking slides thereon for slidablemovement into engaged and disengaged relation with said leaf posts, and a substantially rigid metal transfer bar formed with openings to receive said leaf posts, detachably mounted against the inner surface of said other binding member and having -leaf-supporting posts thereon, said transfer bar cooperating with said leaf posts in the engaged relation of said locking slides with said leaf posts to detachably support a sheet body between the fold portions of said flexible sheet forming said binding members, said transfer bar cooperating to retain said binder parts and sheet body in substantially rigid relation at the binding edge in assembled relation and forming the only metal form-retaining bar in said binder.
