COMBINATION CLOCK AND BARBER/S POLE Application filed January 7, 1932. Serial No. 585,305.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in clocks, and barbers poles, and more particularly to the combination of a clock and barbers pole.
The principal object of this invention is to provide a combined clock and barbers pole, wherein the barbers pole is operated by the mechanism of the clock.
Other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawings Figure 1 represents a front elevational view of the combination device.
Fig. 2 represents a vertical sectional view through the device.
Fig. 3 represents a horizontal sectional view, taken substantially on line 33 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4; represents a bottom plan view of the clock housing.
Fig. 5 represents a vertical sectional View taken substantially on line 5--5 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 6 represents a top plan view of the rotor of the barbers pole.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents a circular base having an upstanding annular flange 6 which is telescoped by the lower end of the cylindrical transparent shell 7 of glass or some other similar material.
Upon the base 5 is the upstanding conduit 8 supporting a lamp socket 9 in which an incandescent lamp 10 can beplaccd for illuminating the cylindrical rotor 11 which is of transluscent material and having the usual colored spirals on the outer side thereof, simulating the well known barbers pole.
The upper end of this rotor 11 is formed over the peripheral portion of the disk 12 which has an annular arrangement of closely spaced openings 13 therein as clearly shown in Fig. 6.
45 Numeral 14 represents a box-like housing having an opening in the front side thereof for accommodating the glass or transparent pane 15 through which the clock dial 16 and hands 17 are visible.
Numeral 18 represents a ring at the lower portion of the housing 14 and having a depending annular flange 19 engaged into and secured to the upper end of the cylindrical shell 7, which as before stated, is transparent. Rotatable within this ring 18 and flange 19 is the upper end of the rotor 11 as is clearly shown in Fig. 2.
Inside of the housing 1 1 is the pair of spaced partitions 20 and 21 through which the drive shaft 22, setting shaft 23 and counter shaft 24; are journalled. One end of the shaft 23 extends through the back of the housing 14 and is equipped with a knob 25, while between the partitions 20 and 21, this shaft 23 is provided with a pinion 26 which meshes with the gear 27 on the drive shaft 22. One end of the drive shaft 22 connects to the clock mechanism generally referred to by numeral 28, while the opposite end of the drive shaft 22 extends through the partition 20 and is operatively connected to the electro-motive means 29.
The setting shaft 23 is equipped with a gear 30 which meshes with the pinion 31 on the counter shaft 24, and as is clearly shown in Fig. 2, this counter shaft 24 is provided with a gear 32 which meshes with the openings 13 of the aforementioned disk 12.
It can now be seen that when the motive means 29 is in operation, there will be motion so supplied to the clock mechanism 28 and simultaneously to the rotor 11, thus affording clock operation and a barbers pole operation from a single power source.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is:
1. In combination with a clock mechanism, a clock dial and time indicating hands, a gear operated by the clock mechanism, a rotary barbers pole having an annular arrangement of openings in one end thereof for receiving the teeth of the said gear.
