For the purpose of recording writings on to the top strip, upon the under strips, sheets of carbon paper may be interposed between the strips, in a manner which will be later described, or certain of the strips may be provided with carbonized'under surfaces. As shown in Fig. 8, the reverse sides of thestrips 20 and 22 may be carbonized, so that when Y folded, asin Figs. 9y and 10, a writing upon the upper strip 20 willv be recorded uponthe under strips 22 andV 21. f Y

The plural record strip is folded back and forth, upon the transverse lines 23, and stored inthe compartment 13, as shown in Fig. l2. The upper end vlofthe strip is Vpassed rearward and around theroll 25, located in the upper, rear corner of the casing, and beneath the spring 26, carried by the cover hinge rod 77 of the casing.

After passing between the roll and spring, the record strip is carried forward, and over the knife 28, shaped as shown in Fig. 3, with the central, rearwardly disposed'reduced portion 29, and the reversely curved Yside edges 30, whereby the several strips aresevered,

The handle 39 is thus normallyheld in the position shown in the drawings, the -pawl 45 and ratchet 47 preventing the handle from falling by gravity to a vertical position. 'The pawl 46 is arranged to engage the ratchet 50, which is fixed upon the shaft 38, for thepurpose of rotating said shaft through thelian- A gearl is fixed uponthe lshaft 38, being preferably fixed to the ratchet-50, as by rivets or the `like indicated at 52. This gear is adapted to mesh with the pinion 53, fixed uponthe shaft 37, of the upper feed roll 33, so that both feed rolls will be rotated together when the handle 39V is operated. t

Cams 54 are fixed upon the shaft 38, one neareach end of the shaft, the cam adjacent to the handle end ofthe shaftbeing preferablyattached to the ratchet 50 and gear 51 as by the rivets 52. Y Y

A latch is provided for normally holding the cover in position upon the casing, and may comprise the locking tongue 82, pivoted to one side wall of the casing, as at S3, and adapted to engage the depending lug 84, carried upon the insidey of the front cover section 27 o.
