Description

Patented Aug. 30, 1932 UNITED STATES LAWRENCE E. BAER, oF AT'rLEBoRo, MAs'secHUsn'rTa ASSIGNQBLTO rrrnvnann :a
wrLnn COMPANY, on ATTLEBQRQL.M'AsSAcnUsnfrfrs 'rin Honiinitl y Application mea December 5, i931. serial No. 579.171.
This invention relates to necktie holders and the primary object of the invention is to provide a holder which has means for centralizing same relative to the neclrtie, or in other words to provide means for restricting movement of the holder relative to the necktie in applying the holder so that the holder cannot cause puckering, crinkling or distortion of the necktie, but will retain same with Y lo both of its side edges in a straight and natural position.
The invention still further aims to provide means of this character which assists in retaining the holder in position so that a plurality of definite spaced points of engagement with the parts is had.
The invention has still further and other objects which latter are set forth and maniested in the course of the following description.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a bottom plan invention;
Figure 2 is a side elevation;
55 Figures 3 and 4 are sections on lines 3-3 and 4 4 respectively o-Figure 1 and Figure 5 is a front elevation showing the holder in applied position.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention the device is preferably made of a single piece of wire which is doubled upon itself to form an outer jaw having /spaced sides 1, the wire being curved inwardly and over at 2, with the inwardly bent porview of the tions in abutting engagement as shown in` Figure 1 and are extended for a distance as shown at 2 and then are spread to form an inner jaw of substantially O-shape having spaced sides 3 which latter project beyond 4G the sides l of the outer jaw.L The terminals of the wire are then brought into abutting engagement as shown at 4 and are coiled to form a pair of eyes 5 which eyes receive a hollow rivet 6 therethrough. Rollers 7 hav- 5 functions in a dual manner, namely to hold ing knurled peripheries are rotatably mountthe portions 2 in abutting engagementand to support Aa stop finger 10 which is formed on or secured vto the Sleeve 9 and whiohprojects into thespace-betweenthetwo jaws. It will furtherrbe noted that the *sides* 3 of 55v thei` inner jaware curved at 11 toward. the sides 1 `of the outerjaw, and adjacent to the sleeve 29 are curved outwardly as shown atf12 to provide for the engagement of the edge S of theshirt bosom between `the parts l2 BQ'- In operation, with the jaw 1 faced outwardly the roller 6 is moved into engagement with the outer edges of `the neclrtie N and ,i the shirt bosom, and the device is then forced inwardlyJ the curved portions 11 of theinner Y jaw servmg to deiect the shirt bosom into the space between the finger 10 and the bends 12, until the edge S` of one ofthe sides of the bosom engages the junctural points be* tween the parts 10 and`12 whicharrests inwardy movement of the holder andcentralizes the latter with respect to the necktie. It will thus be seenfthat the neclrtie and shirt bosom cannot engage the curved part 2-which con- '15b` neet the two jaws with resultant puclrering or crushing and thereby distortion of the adjacent edge of the necktie, andat the same time centralizes the necktie as shown in Figure 5. l
What is claimed as new andwhat IV desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A tie holder composed of'a pair of opposed jaws connected together at one endj centering means between and permanently spaced from each jaw, and -being connectedV to one of the jaws so as tobe movable there with and being located adjacent to the longitudinal center of said first named aw.
2. A tie holder composed of a pair of opposed jaws connected together at one end, and one of which has an outwardly bowed part located adj acent toits longitudinal center, a linger-like part secured at one end to l said first named aw at one end of the bowed part and having itsopposite end terminating in spaced relation to the other end of the bowed part, said finger-like part being substantially straight and permanently spaced fromeach of the jaws and being movable with the first named jaw.
3. A tie holder composed of a pair of opposed jaws connected together at one end,
'one of Ythe jaws having a permanently open substantiall U-shaped guiding part betweenl its ends an whichr is movable with said one jaw and wholly disposed in the space between,
the jaws.
4; A- tiefholder composedof afpairof-y op-jv posed jaws connected together at one end', and centering means carried by one of they jaws for bodily movement therewith and being wholly located in the spacebetweenl the-A spaced from'eachof` jaws and permanently the j aws.a j
V5. A tie holder composed of a pair of opposed jaws connectedl together at one end,. and, centering" means carried by one of the? j aws for bodily movement therewith 4andhavlV ingagpermanently open inlet for a shirt edge; and being wholly located between thei jawsV andpermanently'spa'ced from the other'jaw..
In testimonywhereof I have hereunto' Signedmy name.
