Description

A. I. DAVIS.
- STEAK-TENDERER.
No.187,360. Patented Feb.13, 1877.
UNITED TATES OFF CE.
AUGUSTUS J. DAVIS, OF SAPPINGTON, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT m STEAK-TENDERERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.187,360, dated February 13, 1877; application tiled D1 cember 26, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS J. DAVIS, of Sappington, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Machines for Tendering Steaks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making part of this specification.
My invention is an improvement on the machine for tendering steaks, subject-matter of Patent No. 184,872, issued to Thomas Jones as inventor and myself as assignee, (of onehalf,) and hearing date November 28, 1876; and my improvement consists in securing the cutters in a removable block, held in place by, the detachable lever-handle, secured in place by T-studs and slots, as shown. The object is to make the operation of cleansing and sharpening the cutters easy.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the parts detached. Fig. 2 is a sec tion through the machine, with the parts in position.
A is the bed-plate of the machine, having At the top of the block or box e is an outwardly-projecting flange, which rests on the top of the frame I. From the top of the frame I extend two T-formed studs, *3, which pass upward through slots at d in the leverhandle D. The slot (1 is open at the end. The slot d has an enlarged aperture, 61 to allow the passage of the head of the stud, and as the handle is moved endwise, the stud comes to thenarrower part of the slot, and the head sits upon the edge of the slot, to hold the lever down to the frame and in contact with the top of the cutter-box, as shown in Fig. 2, where the lever is shown as holding the box 6 down in'the frame. F is a slotted cuttercleaning plate, which moves up and down in guides formed on the cutter-frame I, and is provided with springs G, which force it down against the steak, so that when the cutters are lifted from the steak it will clean said outters of any adhering substance. H is a movable board, upon which the steak is placed, and which is movable beneath the cutters, so as to bring all parts of the steak beneath the same The main purpose of my improvement is to allow the easy removal of the cutter-box, so that the cutters can be readily cleansed or sharpened.
I claim as my invention The combination of the frame I, hinged to base A, removable cutter-block e, and detachable lever D, holding said cutter box or block 6 in position.
