Description

Aug. 23, 1932.
H. PERROT ET AL BRAKE SHOE Filed Dec. 29; 1928 INVENTOR. Harem PERROT 622mm: Cawnqukc atente d Aug. 23, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT orricr.
[ENRI PERROT, OF PARIS, FRANCE, AND GERMAIN CALVIGNAC, F, MANNHEIM, GER- MANY, ASSIGNORS, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., .A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE BRAKE SHOE Application filed December 29, 1928. Serial No. 329,233.
This invention relates to brake shoes, and s illustrated as embodied in an arcuate rigid hoe for an internal expanding automobile rake. An Object of the invention is to proide an inexpensive shoe of this character in rhich the lining can readily be renewed. .he shoe has at least one and preferably two vebs, which may be connected by a cam date at one end of the shoe and which are rranged to be mounted on a pivot at the ther end of the shoe. The friction part of he shoe may comprise a series of separate lements with pairs of lugs or equivalent porions secured to the shoe webs.
The above and other objects and features f the invention, including various novel and esirable details of construction, will be aparent from the following description of the ,lustrative embodiments shown in the acompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of one form of aoe;
Figure 2 is a partial inside elevation, lookig in the direction of the arrows 22 of igure 1, and showing one of the friction lements;
Figure 3 is a section through the shoe 0 ac line 33 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is an end elevation, looking in lie direction of the arrows l4 of Figure and showing the cam plate;
Figure 5 is a perspective of a stamped steel 1m plate;
Figure 6 is a partial side elevation showing diiferent form of friction element;
Figure 7 is an inside elevation, looking rom the right in Figure 6;
Figure 8 is an inside elevation of a modified me having only one web; and
Figure 9 is a section through the modified ice on the line 99 of Figure 8.
In the arrangement of Figures 1-4, the we comprises two stamped steel webs 10, rmed with openings 12 for a pivot at their wer ends, washers 14 being welded to the ivot. At their upper ends the webs are conbetween the webs 10 and formed with transverse openings for rivets 28 or other fastenings securing the block to the webs. In the arrangement of Figures 6 and 7 there is also an intermediate lug or rib 30 for reinforcing the friction element.
In the arrangement of Figures 8 and 9, there is only one web 110, and the friction blocks 124 have pairs of lugs 126 embracing the web between them and secured thereto by means such as transverse rivets 128.
While several illustrative embodiments of our invention have been described in detail, it is not our intention to limit the scope of the invention to that particular embodiment, or otherwise than by the terms of the appended claims.
1 We claim: 1. A brake shoe having spaced webs, in combination with a thrust plate of stamped steel having backwardly-projecting lugs engaging the sides and edges of the .webs and secured to the sides of the webs. 2. A brake shoe having spaced webs, in combination with a thrust plate having backwardly-projecting lugs secured to the respective webs, and having upper and lower flanges embracing the ends of the webs between them. i
c'fIn" testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
HENRI PERROT.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification. des ofthe webs about openings 12, if de red, to give a more extended bearing on the GER-MAIN OALVIGNAC.
