The invention relates to filing devices, par# ticularly to cases `for index cards and the like and has for its principal object the prof vision of a simple and readily portable case i5 for pocket use by salesmen and others, domestic use for recipesand the like, 'for desk or office use or in fact for employment wherever' such a device is foundv necessary or coni venient.

V An important object of theinventionis -toprovide a file case in which the construction is such that the front-portion which confines the cards may be moved forwardly soas to permit the cards to be separated and rendered muchmore accessible for inspection,

removal or insertion. v

A further object is to provide a casepof this character which may be formed from a 4. single blank constructed of cardboard, fiber o board, leather or in .fact any other suitable sheet material, the blank being cut and foldedintoA shape with certain portions per-maintly secured together as by gluing or the Another object is to provide a case of this character provided with an interiorly located Vreinforcing frame which will increase the strength and rigidity and resist any pressure Y which might be either intentionallyor accif s" dentally Vexerted upon it in use so that distortion will be avoided particularly if the devi-ce be `carried in the pocket.

A still further Objectis to provide a ycase in which the movable card retainingportion is guided in its movement and provided with means which will limit the forward movement and prevent lentire disconnection.

v An ladditional object is to provide a case which will be extremely simple and inekpensive to manufacture and which may consequently be placed 'on the market with, possibly, a set of cards, for a few cents, these advantages being in .addition to the above pointed out characteristics as regards general efficiency and durability.

Referring more particularly to the draw-` ings I have shown the device as comprising a rectangular case indicated as a whole by the numeral l0 and comprising a back 11, av bottom 12, a front 13,v Sides or ends 14 and a cover flap 15,V all of these parts being integral as the caselisformed from a single blank, as shown in Figure 6, in a manner which will be hereinafter described in detail. i Of course the size of the case depends upon the useto which it is intended to beput but it is adaptedy primarily to be made of suchy dimensions as to accommodate any standard size of Vcar,.there being', however, no particular limitation in this 'respec.t. Likewise there may be many variations in the .mate-y rial chosen and thisnwould be governed by the contemplated costof the article.v

av box constructed from sheet material alone does not possess great rigidity, I prefer to 'provide my case with an interiorly located reinforcing means here disclosed as a U-shaped frame of heavier material than the blank. Actually, fairly thick cardboard is satisfactory Yfor the purpose though other materials maybe usedfif desired; I Thisframe includes a vbottom portion'41 and sides 42 as lclearly illustrated infFigures 3 and f7.`

In assembling the case,`the panels 24are folded on the lines 25 to llie against the end panels 22 and the vend panels 22 with the panels 24 superposed thereon are folded on the lines 23 to extend'at right angles tothe main or back panel'11. The frame is then placed in position with its bottom portion 41 lyingv along they line v16 and with its sides folded sides. The ,tabs 27 are then 'folded' upon the lines28 so as to overlie the sides 42 engaging againstwthe panels 24 of the V42 of the frame member and the tabs 34 are folded on the lines 33 to extend across the ends of the members 42. The tabs 31 are then folded on the lines 30' so as to lie against the outer or bottom side of the frame member 41. The panels 37 are folded on the lines 38 to extend at right angles to the panels 13.' VVThe parts will thenv be in the position clearly shown in Figure 7. Assembling further involves folding the tabs 34 inwardlyv along the lines 35 so -that they willlie againsttheinner faces vof, the sides 42 of thel frame, after which the tabs 27 are folded on the linesV 29 so as to lie against the tabs 34 andare securedthereto Vin any preferred manner, as by gluing.

VVhen-this is done it will be observedthat the' tabs 27 overlie thelugs 40 on the panels 37 but are spaced therefrom to permit an action to be described. The above operations define the box which is completedby the simple operation of folding the panels 18 and 2O on the lines 19 and 21'respectivelv and tucking the freeedge or end ofthe panel 20 beneath the front panel 13 as clearly illustrated in Figures1 and 2.

When the box .71s completely assembled as above described it is Vapparent that it is readilyadapted tol contain index cards as infl dicated at 43 and will be very convenient for pocket use by salesmen, agents or the like, for domestic use in keeping track of recipes, etc., or for any Vother-use to which index cards may be put. forward movement being, however, limited by engagement of the lugs 40 with the inner faces ofthe bight "portions vof the folded over tab-s 27 as clearly shown in Figure 4. This movability of the frontpanel .permits the cards to be'separated so that they may be inspected withoutremoval or removed and replaced with ease. Clearly the cover may be folded back to as little or as great an extent as may be found necessary, only -a partly foldedback positionbeing shown in Figures 3 and 4. i v

Y From the foregoing description and a study of the drawings it will be apparent that I have thus provided a very simply constructed file case which will be very convenient and efficient in use. Owing to the construction of the device from a single blank, withthe addition `of the reinforcing frame member,v it is apparent that it will be most inexpensive and maybe manufactured and sold with'a set of cards for a few cents, thereby'recommending itself as a commercial proposition.V It is Vthought that the construction, operation and advantages should'be quite clear to one skilled in the art without further. explana- While I have shown anddescribed thegpreferred embodiment of the invention andV a certa-in deiinite blank for making it, it should be understood that the disclosure is merely I an exemplification of the principles involvedand that the right is reserved to make all such changes in the details as will not depart fromv the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims. y y
