EMF
Patented Aug. 2, 1932 UNETED STATES CHARLES F. MEILINKgOF TOLEDO, OHIO 7 LOADED: SAFE I Application filed July 27, 1929 Serial No. 381,641,
This invention relates to physical shock and fire resisting cabinets.
This invention has utility when incorporated in burglar and fireproof safes, especial- 5 1y for retail establishments, such as filling stations and chain stores.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a front view of an embodiment of the invention in a safe loaded against 10 ready portability;
Fig. 2 is a view of the safe of Fig. 1 with the door open and details of assembly shown;
Fig. 3 is a partial section on the line III-III, Fig. 1;
15 Fig. 4 is a partial section on the line IVTV, Fig. 2; and
Fig. 5 is a section on the line V-V, Fig. 4. Rollers 1 in brackets 2 are in pairs for sustaining respectively front endless angle frame 3 and rear angle frame 4; These frames have on the outer range the angle legs extending toward each other as telescoping seat region 5. Back 6 is assembled with the rear frame 4 by spot welds 7 in the 25 frame 4. In a similar manner front plate section 8 and door jamb 9 may be assembled with the front frame 3. Intermediate tubular body section 10 has arc weld connections 11 from the regions of the frame 3, 4, with 20 converging upwardly extending legs or angle struts 12 having arc weld connections 13 with strong box 14, herein providing a burglar proof chamber 14' with a door 15. The body section 10 of the outer or major shell for the cabinet has spot weld anchors 7 with the angle 3. The frame 4 with the front may be then telescoped upon the section 10 and from the outside at slots 16 have are weld anchor 16 for completing assembly.
49 Fixed with the door jamb 9 by spot welds is inner shell or chamber 17, herein disposed above the box 14 as a convenient repository for records. Slot 18 from the chamber 1? permits delivery of checks, money, or other matter directly into the strong box, say by the station attendant, who may have the combination for opening door 19 by operating lock 20 and handle 21. In some practice it may it be desirable that this attendant not 53 have opening access to the strong box 14.
Such maybe examined by the traveling au- ClltOI. i V V "t 17.; v p A I The outer shell portion 10in itslower portion is here provided with 'opening'22,
through which may be charged in-plastic con- 1 dition a pouring of concrete 23 fill and load the shell." 7 I A cabinet safe as herein disclosed with its entirely to strong box and complete except as to the charge of concrete 23, may be delivered to the place for use. There is thus obviated handling of excessively heavily loaded structure. The cabinet before the concrete charge may have a weight of five or six hundred pounds, while after the concrete charge such Weight is more than doubled. If the pouring be at the place of manufacture, curing of the pour may be had. In any event after the pouring of the concrete, theopening 22 U is concealed by closure 24.
Herein there is provided a substantial strong box for burglar proof protection of adequate capacity for retail establishments of usual character. as on rollers permits slight portability, but there is such mass to the loaded structure as to defeat carting of the strong box away. The. struts as embedded in the concrete are reinforcing means in giving the cabinet strength, as well as actually a strong box anchoring and reinforcement. It is desirable that the filler be non-corrosive in its binding action into the unitary structure, and
The cabinet structure to this end aluminite cement may be incorporated therefor.
What is claimed and it is desired to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A safe comprising a sheet metal housing provided with an opening through one side thereof, a door jamb assembled with the housing about the opening, a plurality of receptacles in the housing and fixed with door jamb in effecting assembly therebetween, diverging legs from the assembled receptacles to the lower portion of the outer housing forming a support for the receptacles, a door coacting with the jamb to close the opening through which access may be had to'the receptacles, and acementio tious filler for the housing about the jamb,
receptacles, and legs as assembly augmenting means binding such into a unitary structure.
2. A safe comprising an outer sheet metal housing provided with an opening through one side thereof, a door j'amb assembled with the housing about the opening, a strong box in the upper portion of the housing having its lower front edge fixed with the door jamb, a sheet metal compartment supported by said strong box which compartment has its upper front edge fixed with the door jamb, diverging legs from the strong box to the lower portion of the outer housing forming a support for the strong box and compartment, a door coacting with the jamb to close the opening through which access may be had to both the strong box and compartment, and a cementitious filler for the housing about the jamb, strong box, compartment, and legs as assembly augmenting means binding such into a unitary structure.
In witness whereof I aflix my signature.
CHARLES F. MEILINK.
