This invention relates to new and useful im rovements in a brush preserving case.

he of the main objects of this invention is to provide eflicient means for preserving a brush, such as a paint brush or the like, which has the paint or similar material retained in its bristles; whereby to prevent stifiening of the paint and the bristles, and to obviate the troublesome task of cleaning the paint from 30 thedbristles every time the brush is to be laid asi e.

Another ob'ect is to provide a case or container means or enclosing the bristle portion of a paint brush or the like, substantially air-tight; so as to reserve said bristle portion, even though t e paint is retained therein, and keep the bristles soft and pliable, for a very long time.

A further object is to provide means for preserving a brush, like a paint brush, for an extended length of time, which means is very sim Is in construction and economical in manu acture, and is highly etficient in use.

Various other objects and advantages will become apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accom anying drawing, in which the invention is s own in its preferred form, it being understood that otherarrangernents and forms of construction may be resorted to for carrying out the objects and purposes of this invention.

The invention is disclosed in t is application in the form of a case or'container which comprises several members hingedly connected, for housing and preserving substantially air-tight therein the bristle p'ortion of a brush, as a paint brush or the like. The case or container is made in the several sizes and shapes required to suit the several forms of aint brushes usually employed in this tra e.

In the drawing this invention is illustrated in its preferred form of construction, in the Sh pe of a case or container arranged for housing and preserving a flat paint brush therein. This case is thereforemade substantially wedge-shaped, to suit the fiat brush; and it com rises an upper member 6 and a lower mem er 7, containing respectively, a top .wall 8 and a bottom wall 9, which are substantially flat, and wherefrom extend the side walls 10 and 11, and the end walls 12 and 13, respectively. These side and end walls are arranged to overlap for a considerable distance, and the side walls are substantially triangular in-shape in this form of construction.

The two members are hind together at their thin ends, providing te thin end or wedge end of the case, for receiving the outer end or thin end of the bristle portion of the brush therein. The hinge means referably includes curled ears 14 and 15, ormed integral on the ends of the top wall and bottom wall, 8 and 9, respectively, and having a pivot pin 16 extending therethrough, sub

stantially as indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawing.

The end walls 12 and 13, which are positioned on members 6 and? at the ends opposite said curled ears 14 and 15, are provided with notches 18 and 19 respectively; whereby is formed an opening 20, for receiving and closely fitting the handle 21 of a brush which has its bristle ortion 22 enclosed in said case and has the handle extending outward thereof, as indicated in Fig. 2.

Pliable or compremible means 23, which may be felt or rubber, preferably in strip form, is preferably also placed between the walls of the two members, to provide a more v 26 is preferably also secured along perfect air-tight closure between said two members. For this purpose the edge portions of the side walls and the end wall of one of said members, are arranged to form channel means for retaining said compressible means 23 therein; and this is preferably accomplished by doubling over said edge portions, as shown at 24 in the drawing, and then curving the material back to form channel means 25, wherein the compressible strip means 23 is securely clamped. The strip means 23 is folded over beyond the edge portions or edge means of the walls whereon it is mounted, and extends and is compressed between said walls and the overlapping walls of the other member, substantial y as shown in the drawing. Similar compressible means the notch portion of the other member, for n rmly hearing upon the brush handle, so that the handle is firmly clasped within said opening 20; and the entire case is thus rendered substantially air-tight to reserve the brush therein.

The brush wit the paint thereon may preferably also be first wrap d in waxed paper, before enclosing in the case; so as to revent smearing the paint into the case, and also to further aid in providing an airtight enclosure for the bristle portion thereof within this case.

This invention thus provides means for preserving a paint brush with the paint thereon, for an extended length of time, and overcomes the former necessity. of cleaning out the brush every time it 1s laid aside; and this form of case is made of sheet metal, or the like, and is thus constructed at a very small cost.

\ I claim as my invention:

1. A case for preserving the bristle portion of a brush therein, said case comprising two members hinged together and containing wall means thereon adapted to overlap, there being an opening provided in the overlapping wall means for receiving the brush handle therein, and the wall means of one of said members being bent along its edge inform a clamping channel, and compressible strip means clamped in said channel and overlapping the edge of said channeled wall means, so as to be com ressed between the two wall means for providing a substantially air-tight case.

A substantially wedge-shaped case for preserving the bristle portion of a brush therein, said case com using an n per memher and a lower mem ber, which ave overlapping wall means thereon includin an end wall and substantially triangular si e walls on each member, said members being hinged together at the thin ed of the case and each ha a notch in t e end wall for together receiving the brush handle therein the edge artof the wall means of one of said mem rs being bent to provide channel means specification.
