My invention relates to that class of re turn bends such as are described in my copending application Serial-No. 579,707, of which this ap lication is a division. My means of accomplishing the foregoing objects may be more readily understoodby having reference to the accompanying drawing, which is hereunto annexed and. made a part hereof, in which- Fig; 1 is a side elevation of a fragmentary part of a pair of still tubes connected by my improved type of return bend, a portion of the well being broken away to show the interior construction;

As seen in Fl .2 the ends of these upset portions are beve edand adapted to contact corresponding surfaces on the faces of the return bend. As shownin Fig. 3 there is a ridge 5 projecting above the upset annular portion which is convex in cross section as clearly seen in-Fig. 3. The return bend 6 shown in Fig. 3 connects the two tubes 1 and 2 each face 7 of the return bend being provided with an annular V shaped recess 50 adapted to receive the ridge 5 and form a sists of two pairs 0 vided with abutments 19 are formed with their centers \on the center line of tight joint. Shoulders 14 are formed on the inner surface of these lower portions 13 which are adapted to be locked to the shoulders 3 on the tubes. In view of the fact that the construction of each half of the return bend is identical, 1 'shall confine myself to a description of a single end. The complementary sections have. upwardly extending arcuate side walls which serve as a. mounting for the tightening means. As illustrated these comprise portions 15 and 16, on the sections 9 and and 11 and 12 respectively, the portion on the section 9 has a boss lkformed thereon which is proa central aperture which is threaded. A set screw .18 is mounted in these threads, its inner end contacting one ofthe two abutments'19 formed on the external wall of the return bend 6. These the tubes 1 and 2. Having described invention what I reard as new and desire to secure by Letters atent is:
1. In a refinery apparatus, a return bend, a pair of shouldered tubes communicating therewith, a compound housing therefor, comprising complementary sections adapted to partially encircle the ends of said tubes and to be locked to the shoulders on the tubes, a boss on one of said complementary sectidns there being an aperture in the other section in which said boss is mounted, the walls of said aperture being flared outwardly whereby the lower portions of said sections can be swung outwardly and a set screw in said boss adapted to contact said return bend to hold said tubes and return bend in a tight joint.
2. In a refinery apparatus, a return bend, a pair of shouldered tubes communicating therewith, a four part housing therefor, comprisin complementary sections adapted to partia y encircle the ends of said tubes and tobe locked to the shoulders on the tubes, a boss on one of said complementary sections there being an aperture in the other section in which said boss is mounted, the walls of said aperture being flared outwardly whereby the lower portions of saidsections can be swung outwardly, and a set screw in said boss adapted tocontact said return bend to hold said tubes and return bend in a tight joint.

In a refinery apparatus, a return bend adapted to connect a pair of shouldered tubes, of a compound housing therefor, comprising complementary sections having arcuate flanges adapted tobe locked to the shoulders on the tubes, a boss on one of said comples5 mentary sections there being an aperture in the other section in which said boss is mounted, the walls of said aperture being flared outwardly whereby the lower portions of said sections can be swung outwardly, and a set screw in said boss adapted to contact said a pair of return bend to hold said tubes and return bend in a tight joint.
