ARTHUR C. KOO'D Z, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN nor Original application filed August 15, 1927, Serial No. 212,934. Divided and this application filed November 3, 1930. Serial No. 493,Q93.-3 I V The invention relates to mops and more particularly to polishing or dusting mops of the type wherein the mop material is removably secured to the mop head or frame 2 i so that it may bereadily taken oif for wash- 16 and the ends of wh1ch are secured to'the pivot pin associated with the handle connector, one of said ends havlng a slldably releasable connection with said pivot pm which prevents the removal or the working off of the mop from theframe and wh1ch may be manipulated without the use of any tools when it is desired to take the mopping 1 material from the frame, In this connection the present invention constitutesa further development of my prior applicatlon Ser. No. 212,934 filed August 15, 1927 A further object of the invention 1s to provide a new and improved mop body wh1ch permits the reversing of the mop so that it may be used on either side and wherein the frame receiving portion comprises a piece of fabric formed into a tube and has the mop strands stitched thereto along its length in radially spaced rows.
The invention further consists in the sev-' eral features hereinafter set forth and more particularly defined by claims at the conclusion hereof. v V
In the drawings, Fig. 1 is an elevation view of a mop embodying the invention, parts being broken away and parts being shown in section;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a top plan View of a portion of the mop frame and handle showing certain modifications, parts being shown in section,
Fig. 4 is a side elevation view of the parts shown in Fig. 3 with a part shown in section' V o 7 Fig. 5 is ardetail sectional view the line 55 of Fig. 4.
In the drawings, the numeral 9 designates the mop body, 10 the supporting frame, '11
taken on the pivot'vmember, 12 the handle connector,
and 13 the handle.
. The mop body may be of known construction such as shown in the aforementioned apor strip of, fabric whose longitudinally exftending edges 14 are secured by lengthwise extending stitching 15 to form a tube 16 through which the wire 10 forming the frame may be inserted so as to mount said mop body being secured to fabric of said tube 16 by rows "of stitching 19 preferably before the fabric is stitched into tubular form. Thus on said frame. I This mop body also'includes V radially spaced rows 17 of strands 18 of suitable fibrous mopping material, said strands 55 the strands projecting from the mop body= present a mopping surface no matter which shape as show-11in Fig. 1 with the mopping material thereon or any other desired shape.
In any case the end portions 21 and 22 of side of the frame ispresented to the work.
suchas the elongated or generally oblong 5 the frame extendinwardly from its periphcry from the rear endthereof. o As shown in Figs. 1. and 2, the end 21 of the frame is releasably'mounted in a hole 23 formed in the end portion of the pivot member 11 and while the resiliency of the frame will hold said'end in said hole inorder to prevent any accidentalwithdrawal, the end portion of said end 21 may be threaded to receive a nut 24 which can be removed withi out tools and permits the withdrawal of this end of the frame from said member so that end of said pivot member but is preferably fixed-therein as by drive fitting, upsetting or pinning these parts together.
The handle connector 12 may be of any suitable construction to engage the pin 11 and provide a socket for, the handle 13; As
shown in Figs. 1 and 2 this handle connector "beinoted that the mop frame may be turned is formed of sheet metal to provide a split socket portion 25 securely clamped to the handle by the bolt 26 and nut 27 and provided at its forward end with pin engaging jaw portions 28 adjustably clamped to said pin by the bolt 29 provided with the clamping wing nut 30.
In the construction shown in Figs. 3'to 5 inclusive, the frame 31 which may beformedin the shape shown. by thedotted lines ini Fig. 1 has an eyed end 32 through which the pivot bolt passes, said bolt being in the;
form of an eyed member threaded to receive 'theclamping nut 34:- and passing through openings 35 in the flattened extensions 36' of] a handle connector 37, whose socket portion seas similar to the socket portion 25 and similarly secured tov the handlelid by a clamping bol't'3'9; The eye 40 of the member '33 isxadapt'edto releasably receive the end 41" ofthe -frame 31'so that it may be readily withdrawn therefrom to remove the mop ma 41 toholdthis end against accidental re-- moval. Metal washers 42 are disposed on the teriallmounted thereon. The end 41 of the 25 :frame 31 may be threaded to receive anut pinorpivot member 33' andto protect the furniture-or other objects from contact with thesemetalrparts, washers 43 of'felt or other pin passes are clamped'together, on the pin hy the nutSl.
With all the aboveconstructions it will be understood" that the wire forming the frame. is sufficiently resilient so that the sepaerable endof the frame in each case may be sprnnginto the hole provided for it in the pivot bolt for. the handle connector.
In-tlie forms shown in Figs. 1to' 5',- it will suitable: cushioning material are also mount- 7 "ed' on said pin adjacent the extensions 36. Theparts' above described through which the relative" to the handle so that either side of the mop'bodyis presented to thework.
Idesire it tobe understood 'thatthis invention" isnot to be limited to any particular f forrnor-arran gement of'parts except in so far "as-such limitationsv are specified 1n the claims or necessitated by the prior art.
What Iclaim as my invention is:
1. In amop, the combination of a resilient mop-receiving frame having separable ends, ahandl'e connector, a, pivot pin on which said connectorfis" pivotally mounted and having "aneye and a shank, one of said ends being mountedon said shank, the other of said ends slidablyfittingin the eye of said pin and releasable therefrom, and a' nut having ithreaded engagement with said slidable end for holding the same'against removal'from saideve'andmeans securmgsaid pin in operative position.
2. In amop, the combination of. a resilient mop-receiving frame -having. separable. ends,
a handle. connector, a pivot pin on which j,
