nianssrnnn This invention relates to brassieres and more particularly to a garment of this kind having resilient means to keep the shape of the body in proper form.
The main object of the invention is to provide a garment of this kind having elastic inserts to exert an even pull on the abdomen and thus keep the body in a slim and trim condition.
Another object of the invention is to combine a brassiere with a belt with suitable elas tic inserts for exerting a pull on the abdomen.
Still another object of the invention is to construct the belt portion with a non-elastic. central portion andelastic end portions for exertin a pull on the abdomen without any discom ort to the wearer.
With the above and other objects in View the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated inlthe accompanying drawings and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is an outside view of the garment shown opened up.
Figure 2 is an enlarged section on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged section on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is an inside view of the garment shown opened up.
Figure 5 is an enlarged section on line 55 of Figure 4.
Figure 6 is an assembly of the elastic inserts.
Referring now to the drawings in detail,
numeral 1 designates the body of the garment formed in four sections 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. The sections 2 and 6 have downwardly extending ends 7 and 8 to which are attached the hose supporters 9 and 10. The middle-section 4 is also provided with a downwardly extending portion 11 to which is fastened the central pair of hose supporters 12 and 13.
Sewed to the bottom of the sections 3 and 5 are elastic inserts 1 1. Each of these inserts consists of two strips of elastic. ma-
1931. Serial No. 544,572.
tached to the inside of the body portion is a belt 17. The belt is stitched to the wall of the body portionat three sides 18, 19 and 20 while the bottom end 21 is free. The belt comprises a central nonelastic member 22 and end members 23. The said end members are each formed in two sections. The sections 24 and 25 are nonelastic while the sec tions 26 and 27 are of elastic material. The
two sets of elastic members 15 and 16 and 26 and 27 superimposed upon each other form the assembly as shown in Figure 6. The sections 3 and 5 including the nonelastic portions 24: and 25 are partly rutfied up in order to allow them to stretch in unison with the elastic-members.
The central member 22 of the belt is widened in the center and inserted in the wall thereof are a set of resilient inserts 28. At the ends of the body portion are a set of hooks and eyes 29 for keeping the garment around the body of the wearer and at the top edge thereof are the shoulder straps 30. i
The garment made as described will be comfortable to wear and will keep the figure neat and trim. The waist of the wearer will be reduced without any undue strain on the body. The elastic portions are adapted to embrace the hips at the sides while the central member 22 is adapted to create a pull on the abdomen. The front central member 4 is smooth and will shield the central member so that no creases or wrinkles will be formed in the outer garment of the wearer. "The nonelastic sections 3 and 5 above the elastic inserts are rufiled up so they expand or contract in unison with the elastic members. It will be noted that all of the stretching will be along the sections 3 and 5 which fit the sides of the wearer. The sections 2 and 6 which are at the back of the wearer and the front section 4 are nonstretchable.
There has been provided a simple and efficient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
It is obvious that many minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the material principles involved. I do not therefore desire to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described but I desire to include all forms which properly come within the scope claimed.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new, is
1. In a garment of the class described, the combination of a stiff central section, of two flexible side sections and two stifl rear sections, a belt running the length of said side and central sections, the bottom edge of said belt being free while the rest of the three sides of said belt being stitched to said side and front sections, said belt comprising a stiff central section and flexible end sections, each of said end sections including a rubber insert and a ruflled up nonelastic portion, said ruflied up nonelastic'portion and said rubber insert sewed together, each of said flexible side sections provided with rubber inserts at the bottom.
2. In a garment of the class described, the combination of a stiff central section, of two flexible side sections and two stiif rear sections, a belt running the length of said side and central sections, the bottom edge of said belt being free while the rest of the three sides of said belt being stitched to said side and front sections, said belt comprising a stiff central section and flexible end sections, each of said end sections including a rubber insert and a ruflied up nonelastic portion, said ruflied up nonelastic portion and said rubber insert sewed together, each of said flexible side sections provided with two strips of rubber inserts at the bottom.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature.
PATRICK J MORAN.
