COMBINED PENHOLDER AND INKWELL Filed Jan. 1.0, 1951 GiuseppeJff'arrzhzrd v Jdll aloreiirnuro INVENTOR & 4 ATTORNEY;
Patented June 14, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SALVATORE S. TAMBURO AND GIUSEPPE S. TAMBURO, OF NEW KENSINGTON, PENN- SYLVANIA COMBINED PENHOLDEB AND INKWELL Application filed January 10, 1931. Serial No. 507,973.
Our present invention has reference to a desk appliance, and our object is the provision of a rack adapted to support ink wells, pen points, pen holders, a calendar, etc., and
;, which is further provided with a secret and normally locked compartment for the reception of stamps, coins and other valuables, and in which the construction is simple, neat and ornamental.
A further object is the provision of a desk appliance in which the wells for ink or mucilage are removably associated with the rack, and in which the racks are so constructed as to be arranged back to back and connected in when in such position, so that a double rack is thus produced.
Other objects and advantages will present themselves as the nature of the invention is better understood, reference being had to the co drawings which accompany and form part of this specification.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a rack in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is an approximately central longitudinal sectional view therethrough.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the well and the clamping nut therefor.
The casting comprising the desk appliance is broadly indicated by the numeral and has its downwardly inclined front integrally formed with spaced longitudinally extending ribs 21 that provide the racks proper. The front has a straight back formed with a longitudinal trough 22 and the rear wall of the trough is formed with a hook 23 for engaging the upper edge of the back of another rack. The sides of the casting have reduced extensions that provide the end walls of the trough 22, and the inner or confronting faces of these extensions 24:, from the top thereof are grooved longitudinally, as at 25, providing guides for the ends of a calendar, card or the like.
The front, adjacent to the trough, has a round opening therethrough designed to register with a round and threaded opening 26 in the flat top of a well 27 The bottom walls of the well 27 are tapered inwardly to the center thereof as indicated by the numeral 28, so that the pen nib, when introduced into the Well will be fed with ink, as long as any quantity of ink remains in the well. The well is removably held on the front 29 by a headed nut 30, the said nut being passed through the opening in the front 29 and screwed in the opening 26 of the well 27.
Our desk appliance, it will be noted, is of a simple construction which is neat and ornamental in appearance. The appliance not only serves as a rack, but as a paper weight. Two of the devices may be readily attached and arranged back to back so that the same may be used by two or more occupants of a desk. Of course, any desired number of wells, for ink or for mucilage may be arranged upon the face or front of each of the racks, and in addition to this the fronts of the racks may be provided with openings or apertures 31 to serve as holders for fountain pens. All of the racks are preferably provided with secret compartments that are closed by locked doors, and the wells may be readily removed for cleaning orfor refilling as desired.
Having described the invention, we claim:
A desk appliance comprising a casting having a straight back whose upper edge is hooked, sides and an inclined front, said front at its juncture with the back having a longitudinal depression providing a pocket, the sides, at the rear thereof having extensions affording end walls of a trough and the said extensions, from their upper edges having aligning grooves, the front adjacent to the trough, having a round opening therethrough, a well to the rear of the opening arranged upon the under face of the front and having a threaded opening therethrough registering with the opening in the front, a
cap nut having its shank passing through the opening in the front and screwed into the opening in the Well, said Well comprising an elongated body that is Wholly closed except for the threaded opening therein, and which body has its bottom wall tapered to its side walls.
In testimony whereof We aflix our signatures.
