@ne of the objects of our invention is to produce a car of less height than that of cars ordinarily employed in which the bottom or floor of the car is low relative to the track, n order to give greater stability of the car on the track, by carrying the load close to the rails, and at the same time for a given head room the car will have greater carrying ca- -pacity and will be especially adapted for use tn low or thin seam mines.

A further object of our invention is to construct a mine car without doors in which the bottom floor and sides are rigidly attached together.y which .is adapted for use with tipples either for the forward discharge of the lead or in a rotary type tipple as desired.
Other objects of our invention relate to certain novel features of construction` combination and arrangement of parts which will bc hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying three. s ieets of drawings in which:

Referring now to the characters of reference on the drawings the numeral l indicates the end and 2 the central floor plates which are connected together at an intermediate point transversely of the car by means of a pair of trough shaped plate cross-sills 3 each having a flat top lloor portion 4 in which integrally formed-upwardly extending wheel housings 5, and downwardly inclined leg portions 6 having flanged edges as at 7, by means of which they are riveted to the end and center floor plates l and 2 respectively thereby forming a iioor with truncated parallel corrugations. The center floor plate Q is further reinforced at its central. portion by means of angles 2.
The sides 8 of the car are formed of a single sheet of metal havingl their upper edge portion bent or rolled over to form a tubular top edge 9 with the edges l0 bent flat against the outside of the side sheet and riveted thereto. The central portion being further reinforced by means of an angle l1. The lower edges of the side plates 8 are secured to the floor plates 1 and 2 and the trough shaped tif;

The ca r ends 16 are each formed of a single sheet of metal having their upper portion rolled to form a tubular top 16. the edge portion being bent flat as at 17 and riveted to thc body of the sheet in a .similar manner to tl :t of the side sheets. The end sheets 16 are connected to the side sheets 8 and the end floor plates 1, by means of corner angles 18 and 19 respectively.
The rear ends of the buffer blocks 21 each engages a transverse bent plate 23. the lower flanged edge 24 of Which is attached to the floor plates 1. The cover plates 28 are flanged at their forward ends as at 29 and riveted to the .end plates 16. ivhile the inner longitudinal sides flanged as at 30. and are riveted to the upwardly extending vertical hanged legs 31 of a channel center sill 32. This channel center sill 32 extends the entire length of the enr having its web longitudinally disposed thereof with its ends supported by the buffer blocks 2l. While the intermediate portions are supported by the ton flat .side faces 4 of the trough shaped cross-sills 3.
Vertical stiffening plates flanged attheir sides and loiver edges as at 34 are riveted to the central floor plate 2 and the inner inclined sides 6 of the trough shaped cross-sills 3, the top edge of the vertical stiffening plate being attached directly to the legs 31 of the center sill 32. Other vertical stitfenin g plates 35 and 36 flanged at their lower and side edges as at 37 are riveted to the end floor sheets .l and to the outer inclined sides (i of the trough shaped cross-sills 3, with the forward flange-z edges engaging the bent plate 23 and their top edges riveted to the legs 31 of the center sill 32 in a similar manner to that of the stitfcning plates The bent plates 23 are also connected to the iveb of the center sill 32 by means of angles 38. 39 indicates the dravvbar ends each having their rear ends secured to the ends of the center sill 32, buffer bloclrs 21 and end floor plates 1 by means of bolts 40. rhese bolts also pass through a reinforcing bar 41. The outer end of each draw-bar end is bent up 'ardly and outwardly and spaced apart by means of a filler block 42 and is secured in position by means of a bolt 43. A perforation is formed in the outer portion of each of the draw-bar ends 39, which registers With the perforations formed in the bumper plate 22 reinforcing bar 41 and buffer block 21 for receiving the usual coupling pin 44.
Journal boxes 45 are attached to the underside of the flat floor portions 4 of the trough shaped cross-sills 3 near the ends thereof by means of rivets which are further reinforced by means of filler plates 46. Axles 47 are journaled in the boxes 45 having wheels mounted thereon as at 48 adapted to extend into the hoods 5 formed in the trough shaped plate cross-sills 3. It will be noted that the trough shaped plate cross-sills 3 not only form a. portion of the car floor, but a housing for the axle and journal boxes and a hood or shield for the Wheels thereby allowing the inain body ofthe car floor to be below the bottoni of the axles and near the rails thereby giving greater carrying capacity to the car at the saine time we are able to form a very strong car body in such a manner as to eliminate the necessity of using side sills.
Although. ive have described and illustrated our invention in considerable detail. ive do not Wish to be limited to the exact and specific details thereof, as shoivn and described, but may use such modifications in. substitutions for er equivalents thereof, as are embraced Within the scope of our invention or as pointed out in the claims.
.having thus described our invention what ive claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a car structure, comprising a body having sides and end Walls. a floor extending the full length of the car secured to the sides and end Walls having transversely spL ccd housings formed therein, and a longitudinal ridge connecting the spaced housings and cud Walls together.
2. In a. car structure. a body having walls and a floor extending the full length of the car, spaced housings extending transversely of the floor and forming a portion thereof, ruiming gear for the car mounted in the spaced housings, and a longitudinal ridge connecting the central portions of the spaced housings and end Walls together.
3. In a car structure, a body having side and end walls, a floor comprising a plurality of spaced trough shaped cross-sills and flat .-loor plates secured together, a` channel cen- Vter-sill forming the central longitudinal portion of the car 'lloor extending over the central portions of the cross-sills and secured thereto, and means for securing the Hoor to fthe side and end walls.

In a car structure, a body having side and end walls, a floor comprising a plurality of spaced trough shaped cross-sills with flanged edges, said spaced trough shaped (50 cross-sills being ot substantially uniform cross-section throughout the major portion of their lengths and extending transversely of the ear below the center sill and attached to the car sides, and flat plates secured to the elfi flanged edges of the spaced trough shaped sills and secured to the sides and ends of the car.

In a car structure, a body having side and end walls, a floor comprising a longitudinal center-sill forming a central ridge for the car, a plurality of spaced transverse trough shaped cross-sills mounted below the center-sill forming ridges for a portion of the floor, a llat floor plate disposed centrally for connecting the spaced trough shaped cross-sills together, flat end floor plates for connecting the transverse trough shaped cross-sills to the car ends, and means for connecting the ends ot the transverse trough shaped cross-sills and llat floor plates to the car sides.
l0. In a car structure, a body having side and end walls, a channel center sill having a horizontally disposed web and upwardly extending lla-nges, and a car floor having bin like recesses formed therein on either side o'lE the center sill.

In a car structure, a body having side and end walls, a iloor comprising a plurality of spaced inverted trough shaped cross-sills extending transversely of the ear`r flat floor plates between the cross-sills and the end walls and connected thereto, bumper blocks seated upon the end iioor plates and secured thereto, a channel center sill having its web horizontally disposed with upwardly extending flanges supported by the bumper blocks and cross-sills, and stilleningmembers forcennecting the floor plates and the center sill together.

In a car structure, a body having side and end walls, a floor comprising a plurality of spa-ced inverted trough shaped cross-sills extending transversely of the car forming housings for the car running gear, upwardly extending hoods for the car wheels formed integral with the cross-sills, flat floor plates between the cross-sills and the end walls and connected thereto, bumper blocks seated upon' the end floor plates and secured thereto, a channel center sill having its web horizontally disposed with upwardly extending flanges supported by the bumper blocks and cross-sills, and stitening members for conneeting the floor plates and the center sill together.

In a ear structure, a body having side and end walls, a Hoor comprising a plurality of spa-ced inverted trough shaped cross-sills ext-ending transversely of the ear, flat floor plates between the cross-sills and end walls and connected thereto, bumper blocks secured to the top of the flat end floor plates and eX- tending outwardly beyond the end of the ear, a transverse bent plate secured to each end floor pla-te, and spaced Z-bars at each side of the bumper blocks secured to the end floor plates between the bent plate and the end walls of the car.

In a car structure, a body having sides and end walls, a floor comprising a plurality of transversely arranged spaced inverted trough shaped cross-sills, fiat floor plates between the cross-sills and end walls and connected thereto, a transverse bent plate secured at an intermediate point to the top of each end floor plate, bumper blocks secured to the top of the fla-t end Hoor plates and extending outwardly beyond the ends of the car, Z-bars at each side of the bumper blocks secured to the top of the end floor plates between the bent plates and the end walls ot rthe car, a channel center sill engaging the top of the cross-sills and bumper blocks, and means for securing the center sill to the top of the bumper blocks and iioor plates.

In al car structure, a body having sides .and end Walls, a floor comprising a plurality of spaced inverted trough shaped cross-sills forming housings for the running gear mounted therein, hoods for the wheels of the running gea-r formed integral with the crosssills, flat floor plates between the cross-sills and end walls and connected thereto, a transverse bent plate secured centrally to the top of each end Hoor plate, bumper blocks secured to the top of the fla-t end floor plates and adapted to extend through a. hole in the end wall outwardly beyond the ends ot the car, Z-bars at. each side of the bumper blocks and secured to the top of the end loor plates between the bent plates and the end wals of `the ear. a channel center sill engaging the top of the cross-sills and bumper blocks, and means for securing the center sill to the top of the bumper blocks and floor plates.

In a car structure a body having side and end walls, a floor comprising a plurality of spaced inverted trough shaped cross-sills of substantially uniform cross section throughout the major portion of their lengths forming housings for the running gear extending transversely of the car, flat floor` plates between the cross-sills and the car end walls below the center of the axles of the running gear, means for connecting the crosssills and plates together, means for connecting the side and end walls to the floor, and rcinforcing gusset braces between the side walls and tops of the cross-sills.

In a car structure, a body having side and end walls, a. :door comprising a plurality of spaced inverted trough shaped cross-sills of uniform cross section throughout the major portion of their lengths extending transversely of the car below the center sill and forming housings for enclosing the running gear, hoods for the wheels of the running gear formed integral with the cross-sills, flat floor plates between the cross-sills and the car end walls, a flange formed on the lower edge of the side sheets riveted to the side edges of the floor, and gusset braces between the side walls and the tops of the cross-sills.

In a car structure, a body having sides and end walls, a floor comprising a plurality of spaced inverted trough shaped cross-sills forming housings for the running gear mounted therein, hoods for the wheels of the running gear formed integral with the crosssills, flat floor plates between the cross-sills and end walls and connected thereto, a flange formed on the lower edge of the side sheets riveted to the side edges of the floor, gusset braces between the side walls and the tops of the cross-sills, a transverse bent plate secured centrally to the top of each end floor plate, bumper blocks secured tothe topof-the Hat end floor plates and adapted to extend through a hole in the end wall outwardly beyond the ends of the car, Z-bars at each side of the bumper blocks secured to the top of the end floor plates between the bent plates and the end walls of the car, a channel center sill engaging the top of the cross-sills and bumper blocks, and means for securing the center sill to the top of the bumper blocks and floor plates.

In a car structure, a body having side and end walls, a floor comprising a plurality of spaced transverse trough shaped crosssills, flat ioor plates between the cross-sills and the end walls, means for connecting the Hoor to the side and end walls, bumper blocks seated on the top of the end floor plates each adapted to extend through an opening in the end walls, a channel center sill supported by the cross-sill and bumper blocks and secured thereto, a transverse bent plate secured centrally to the top of each end floor plate for engaging the rear end of each bumper block. Z-bars at each side of the bumper block secured to the top of the end floor plates between the bent plates and the end walls ot the car, a reinforcing bar mounted on the bumper blocks cover plates on top the bumper blocks onl each side of the center sill, means for securing the cover plates to the center-sills and maV end walls, a connection between the bent plate and the center sill, a draw bar end attached to each end of the center sill, a filler block between the draw bar end and the reinforcing bar and a bumper plate attached to the outer end of each bumper block.

In a car structure, a body having side and end walls, a floor having a central longitudinal ridge and a plurality of transverse ridges, said oor comprising a plurality of spaced trough shaped cross-sills of uniform cross-section throughout the major portion of their lengths extending transversely of the car and having their ends attached to the car sides to form the transverse ridges for the floor, wheel hoods formed integral with the spaced trough shaped cross sills, a centersill extending over the cross-sills and secured thereto and forming the central longitudinal ridge Jfor the floor, and flat plates secured to the spaced trough shaped sills and secured to the sides and -ends of the car.
