This invention relates to fire extinguishers and particularly to means for attaching fire extinguishers to a lamp standard.
The invention has for its object to provide supporting means whereby fire extinguishers can be carried by a lamp standard in such a manner that tae extinguishers will be readily accessible for manual operation or will be automatically released in case of fire.
Further objects of the invention will appear from the following specification taken in connection with the drawings which form a part of this application, and in which Fig. 1 is an elevational view showing an extinguisher support carried by a lamp standard or post;
Fig. 2 is a plan view, partly broken away, of the structure shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is an elevational view showing the back plate on which the extinguishers are mounted Fig. 4 is an elevational View of the front plate on the extinguisher and the automatic control means;

The invention briefly described consists of means for supporting a plurality of fire extinguishers, preferably of the grenade type, on the central post or standard of a lamp, such as a table or floor lamp. The supporting means is so constructed that a plurality of extinguishers can be mounted thereon, the extinguishers being so positioned that they will normally be concealed from View by the lamp shade but will be readily accessible for manual operation in case of fire. The eX- tinguishers preferably consist of frangible containers or grenades and the supports are so constructed and arranged that the frangible containers will be automatically released in case of fire and will drop and break, thus releasing the fire extinguishing fluid.
Further details of the invention will appear from the following description.
In the embodiment of the inrention illustrated. in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, there is shown a central post or standard 10 of a lamp. The upper end of the post 10 has a casing 11 secured thereto and conduits i2 and 13 extend laterally and downwardly from the casing and receive the lamp sockets i i. The wires for the lamp may extend in the usual manner upwardly through the post and latcrally through the conduits l2 and 13.
A lamp shade of any suitable form or shape is mounted on the standard and in the embodiment of the invention shown, the shade is carried by a rin 21, which in turn is carried by wires 22, 23, 2% and 25, which are secured at their inner ends to a fiat disk or washer 26. In the usual construction the ends of the wires extend downwardly through radially disposed holes 21' formed in the washer and are bent back against the under surface of the washer.
The fire extinguishers are carried by a bracket comprising a central portion and downwardly extending legs 31 and 32. The central portion 30 has a central opening 33 for receiving a bolt 29 and has slots 3% extending radially from the opening and so positioned as to receive the ends of the wires 22, 23, 24c and 25 which are bent back beneath the under surface of the washer 26. By means of the construction just described, the lamp shade will always be so positioned with reference to the bracket that the legs 31 and on which the extinguishers are mounted, will be positioned between the wires 22, 23, 2st or 25 of the lamp shade. Thus the extinguisher will be readily accessible for manual operation.
in the form of the invention illustrated, each extinguisher consists of a frangible container l0 of the grenade type which is supported on a pair of curved arms ll and 2, each arm being pivotally mounted in lugs 43 and 4a which are preferably struck up out of a back plate 45. The plate 45 is secured to one of the bracket legs 31 or 32.
The outer ends of the arms are positioned in openings and formed in the outer ends of a pair of metallic strips 52 and 53, which in turn are connected at their inner ends by a fusible connection 5 l of soft solder or other suitable material. It will be obvious from the plan view in Fig. 2 that the lire extinguisher containers or grenades 40 will. be readily accessible through the open top of the shade so that they can be manually used, if desired. However, in case a fire occurs when no one is present, the fusible connection 54 will give way, thus releasing the grenades which will drop and break, freeing the 'ire extinguishing fluid contained therein Although one specific embodiment of the invention has been particularly shown and described, it will be understood that the invention is capable of modification and that changes in the construction and in the arrangement of the various cooperating parts may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention, as expressed in the following claims.
WVhat I claim is:
1. In combination, a lamp standard, lamps carried thereby and extending laterally therefrom, a lamp shade frame mounted on said standard having vertical openings therethrough, a bracket mounted on said standard and having a depending portion, means on said portion for supporting a fire extinguisher container, and means for so locating the bracket relative to the lamp shade frame that the container supporting means on said bracket will be positioned below one of the frame openings whereby access to the container may be had through one of said openings.
2. In combination, a lamp standard, lamps carried thereby and extending laterally therefrom, a lamp shade frame mounted on said standard having vertical openings therethrough, a bracket mounted on said standard and having a depending portion, means on said portion for supporting a fire extinguisher container, and coacting means on the bracket and frame for so locating the bracket relative to the lamp shade frame that the container supporting means on sa d bracket will be positioned below one of the frame openings whereby access to the container may be had through one of said opemngs.
3. In combination, a lamp standard, lamps carried thereby and extending laterally therefrom, a lamp shade frame mounted on said standard having vertical openings therethrough, a bracket mounted on said standard and having depending portions, means on said portions for supporting fire extinguisher containers, and means for so locating the bracket relative to the lamp shade frame that the container supporting means on said bracket will be positioned below one of the frame openings whereby access 1 to the containers may be had through said openings.
