The primary object of the invention is to provide novelly constructed head plate and stile for window structures each of which has a cavity formed therein in positions to communicate with each other when the head plate and stile are positioned in assembled relation with each other; said cavities co-operating to present a pulley receiving opening to support a novelly constructed casing wherein is mounted the pulley wheel.
Another object of the invention is to -pro-' vide a window structure which has a pulley receiving opening formed in the head plate and stile thereof which is disposed to support V a pulley and its casing in a position With relation to the stile which causes the cord passing over the pulley to be projected along each side of the stile.
A yet further object of this invention is the provision of a novel combination of parts to be found in a window structure which permits positioning of a pulley casing at the point of juncture of the head plate and stile of the structure; said pulley casing having groups of fastening means formed integrally therewith to permit of selectively using the same to secure the pulley casing in position.
It is well known in the art that the use of some types of wood precludes fastening pulley casings in place through the use of screws or nails because the wood is not strong enough to hold the screws against pulling out. It is therefore, an object of this invention to provide a coacting head plate and stile wherein is formed appropriate cavities which communicate to provide a pulley casing opening which receives and maintains the pulley casing in position without the use of fastening r means to directly receive the securing force.
Minor objects of the invention will appear during the course of the specification describing the forms thereof illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein Figure 1 is a fragmentary sectional view through an intersecting head plate and stile showing a pulley and a combination of parts made and assembled in accordance with this invention.

With particular reference at this time to the drawing, wherein similar reference characters refer to like parts throughout the several views, thenumeral 10 designates a head plate and 12 indicates a stile which serve as parts of the well known window structure.
A pulley casing 14 which may be made of metal or other suitable material, and which has mounted therein a pulley wheel 16 over whichpasses the sash cord 18 for the purpose of counterweighting the sash of the structure, may be carried by the intersecting head plate and stile 10 and 12 respectively as shown in the drawing.
With particular reference at this time to Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive wherein is illustrated the combination of parts and their related positions when head plate 10 is caused to intersect stile 12 and rest thereon at the upper end of the same. Head plate 10 should be provided with a cavity 20 having a contour in cross section substantially the same as the similar contour of casing 14. Cavity 20, as illustrated in Fig. 1, passes through head plate 10 and a groove 22 passing transversely of cavity 20 receives the upper end of stile 12. Pulley casing 14 has its lower edge lying in a plane intermediate the surfaces of the head plate-10, and this lower edge should be spaced slightly above the edge of stile 12 as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
The pulley casing 14 is provided with a series of lugs formed by the sides thereof, the lugs of each side being in opposed relation and the same also being divided into two groups, one of said groups being disposed in parallel relation to the lower edge of pulley casing 14, the other group being disposed at right angles to first mentioned group. All of said lugs are spaced inwardly from the edge of the casing and are struck from the sides thereof. When the casing is sold for use, it is preferred that these groups of lugs be left in the closed down position. Then the casing 14 is assembled with the window structure, it will then be possible to bend the lugs needed to the right angled position to the side of casing 14.
In the instance shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive, lugs 24 are bent out and rest upon the upper face of head plate 10. If desired, holes 26 may be formed through each of these lugs 24 to receive nails or similar means which may be utilized for securing the casing 14 against displacement from cavity 20. It is obvious that no stress or strain is taken by these nails and the housing 14 would not be likely to be moved from the operative position without their use.
With reference at this point to the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 5 to 8 inclusive, head plate 10 has formed therein a cavity 28 which communicates with cavity 30 formed in the upper end of stile 12. Head plate 10 enters the groove 32 formed along the one side of stile 12. A pulley receiving opening is thus formed by communicating cavities 28 and 30 and casing 14 is supported thereby as clearly shown in Figs. 5 to 7 inclusive.
When structure of this form is used to carry out the invention, lugs 24 are left in the closed-down position and the lugs 34 bent out to engage the side of stile 12 as shown. Openings 36 may be formed through lugs 84 to receive screws or nails as hereinbefore related for lugs 24.
It will be noted that the center of wheel 16 lies directly above stile 12 and that the communicating cavities formed in the stile and head plate of both forms of the invention allows the sash cord 18" to pass from the wheel 16 along each side of the stile 12. This construction insures a perfect balance and little more than forcing the casing 14 into the casing receiving opening is necessary when assembling the window structure. Obviously, these interrelated cavities and grooves may be formed in the head plates and stiles when they are being turned out at the mill. The pulley constructed as described is susceptible of easy placement and the whole assembly presents an exceptionally novel and efiicient combination.
Modifications and departures from the specific structure shown and described may be made without departing from the spirit of tllie invention and the scope of the appended C 31111.
What is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
As a new article of manufacture, a window pulley casing having a series of lug groups formed on each side respectively thereof, said lugs being bendable to the operative position as the same are needed, one of said groups positioned on one side of said casing having lugs disposed in a plane at right angles to the pline of the lugs-of the other group on said s1 e.
