Description
May 31, 1932. E. B. WESTON BY w A TORNEYS.
Patented May 31, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE",
EDWARD ZB.WEST01\T,0F DAYTON, onro, nssrenon To THE wns'ron PAPER AND MANU FAGTURING COMPANY, or DAYTON, QI-I IQQi-L conroan'rron or onro DISPLAY STAND I This invention is an improvement in display stands, and more particularly in a stand of the easel type. 7
One of the primary objects of the invention is the provision of a stand especially designed to display advantageously goods containers, suchas pails, tubs, and like articles, cylindrical in cross section. V
Another object is the provision of a stand,
by means of which a plurality of similar containers of the class described, may be supported with'their tops in parallel planes, and inclined with respect to the horizontal, whereby to facilitate inspection of the con- 1 tents thereof.
Another object is'the provision of a simple inexpensive but strong and rigid stand, capable of being flatly folded for storage and transportation, and capable of being easily unfolded and held rigid in unfolded position.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts fully described hereinafter, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims appended hereto, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention. i r r In the drawings forming a part hereof Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the improved stand indisplay position.
'Fig. 2 is a similar view with the stand folded. V
In the present embodiment of the invention, the improved stand comprises a display part and an easel support. The former is composed of a pair, of spaced parallel bars 1,
which are connected at suitable intervals by cross straps or bars 2, and the upper ends of the bars 1 are pivoted to the easel support, which is composed of a pair of'bars 3, connected by a crossbar inear their tops, and by crossed inclined braces 5 between the bar 4 and their lower ends. i
Thebars 1 and 3 havesuitably formed 50 feet, audit will be noticed referring to Fig.
1, that the bars 1 are pivoted to the inner faces I of the bars 3, the pivotal connection being in- 1 dicated at 6. Angle. plates '7 are provided at the pivotal connection, one portion of each angle plate being between the adjacent bars 1 and 3, and the other portion extendinginwardly', as shown.
r The display part or support proper for the goods, composed of the elements land 2, is designed to be supported in inclined position by the easel support constituted by the numbers 345, and the parts are held in display position by pairs of braces 8, and-9. The
may-swing as a whole. Thebraces 8. are pivoted to the inner faces of the bars 3, and the braces 9 are pivoted to the outer facesof the bars 1, and the cross members 13 and 14, are so arranged as to enable thebraces 8 to fold on the inner faces of the bars 3, andto enable the braces 9 to foldonto the outer facesof the 7 bars 1. V 1 p p A plurality of semicircular or are shaped holders 15 is pivoted to the bars 10f the display part, and these holders are adapted to swing into the plane of thedisplay part constituted by the elementl-Q, or into the position of Fig. 1, that is,'with the plane of the holders inclining downwardly with respect to the display part. "The swinging movement into the inclined position of the holders-is limited by 'a-ngle'plates 16, secured to one' of the bars 1, andextending inwardly, as shown in Figs. 1 a-nd'2, so that/when ,a holder is-in proper position with respect to: the display 7 part it will rest upon an angle plate and be 4: of the easel. It will be noted that these elements 4, 13 and 14 are so spaced with respect to the holders vwith'whijch they coop erate, that the containers when similar, will be supported with their tops in parallel planes,=and inclined with respect-to the horiz'ontal to facilitate inspection. The con tainer's will alsobe supported with'their= axes parallel.
Each"of-the'bars 13 and 14 is spaced at the same distance from the-plane of the holder,
so that with similar containers, all will eX- t'end anequal depth beyondthe plane of the display part-of the stand. In order-to fold the -stz'md, thebrace assembly including the bars'S is swung upwardinto the-plane of the easel support. The brace assembly including-the bars 9 isdetached from the easel support, andswimg npwardinto the plane of the display part of the stand. The holders aretl'ienturned into the plane of-the saiddis- 'play'part. The'angle plates 7 serve as stops to prevent-the pails toppling over.
It will be apparent from 'the description that theyfstand includes a plurality of cradles forfreceiving and holding substantially oylind'rical c'ontaintr's withtheir ares parallel and inclined to the horizontal, and that the cradles are foldable with the stand. Each "cradle is 'constitutedby 'a holder forming a seat'embra'cing the side'of the container, and astopfor'the bottom.
- The elements '9j14 and B -13 each'constitute a brace assembly, the former "being piVotedto-the frame or display part-of' the stand while the latter is pivoted to the support part of the stand.
"What'is claimed as new-is i j 1; A folda'bledisplay stand-comprising an easel supp'ort,"a air arms iv6m11y connected theretoadjacent its top for swinging movement to folded and extended positions relative thereto, braces connected between each-0f said arms and the easel to hold' the standineXtendedposition, a bar mountedbetween said braces-i and at a point-between the arms and easel when they are extended, and 1a s'ilbstantially U-shaped' member pivot-ally connected to the arms 'and 'swingableinto a position inclined to the plane of thearms with its bottom; above'and in.frontofsaid bar tosupportthe; side=of a containerin in- 'cl'inedgpositionpsaid'bar'beingpositioned on the braces to support the end of the container in said position.
2. A foldable display stand comprising an open main frame composed of spaced arms, an easel support pivotally cannecte-d to said arms of the main frame, a pair'of braces pivot'all-y connected-to the easel support at one end and adapted to engage the main frame at their other ends to hold the display stand in extended jposition, 'siib'st'anti ally U =shaped holders pivotally 'mountedbfetwe'enthe arms of-the main frame to hold into the plane of said arms and to swing therefrom, stops on.

4. A fol-dabledisphy sand at receiving and holding substantially cylindrical cans with'their a 'Xes parallel-and inclined tothe horizontal, comprising an open main frame composed of connected longitudinal andcross bar's, an"easel support pivoted-to the frame, braces pivoted to the easel support at one' end and engaginglat their otherends with-the cross bars to hold-the stand in extended position, substantially U-shaped holders 'pivotof." the main frame, stops on themain frame for holdingeach seat in a selected inclined position when swung from-the plane of the mainframe, a crossbar connecting eachpair o'f braces at points between the main frame andeasel -and below} the bottoms of the seats andforming; a stop for thebottom of a containerin the adjacent seat-, albar across the easel support belowthe bottom of the uppermost holder and spaced-"therefrom-substan itially the same dista nce and at substantially ed to" the main frame to .fold into the. plane thesame angle -as thecross'bars ofthe braces l are spaced from their respective cooperating holders for engagement by the bottom of the uppermost container.
5. A display stand comprising an easel support, a pair of arms ivotally connected thereto adjacent its top for swinging movement to folded and extended position relative thereto, a plurality of pairs of braces connected between each of said arms and the easel support to hold the stand in extended position and swingable when the stand is folded into substantially the same plane as the arms and easel support, a bar mounted be tween each pair of braces at a point between the arms and easel support when they are extended, a substantially U-sha-ped holder pivotally connected to the arms above each pair of braces and cross bar and swingable into a position inclined to the plane of the arms with its bottom above and in front of the cross bar to support the side of a container and swingable therefrom into the same plane as the arms, each cross bar being positioned on the braces at a point relative to the respective holders to support the end of a container within each holder in inclined position and with the axes of the containers substantially parallel.
