Zdua!? Invenior .ZZZoZ Patented May 24, 1932' PATENT OFFICE I EDNA L. ELLIOTT, OF COLUMBUS, NEW MEXICO CIGABETTE MENTHOLATOB Application med February 27, 1931. serial No. 518365.
This invention relates to an improved ornamental container for ready-made cigarettes, cigars, and tobacco, and it has more particular reference to a device which isexpressly designed for subjecting the cigarettes to the action of mentholated vapors and fumes by a process of absorption and permeation.
More explicitly related, the inventive conception comprehends the vision of a miniature box-like container which is suitably garnished and embellished and constructed as a convenient container for loose cigarettcs, means being provided therein for scentng 'the tobacco of the cigarettes with menthol, so that upon igniting the cigarette, it serves to difiuse a fragrant aroma, and expel a medicated smoke which serves to alleviate certain local .irritating conditions in the head and throat.
The particular structural details employed in the association 'of parts will become more readily apparent from the following descrption and drawings.
In the drawings: I Figure 1 is a Vertical sectonal View throu h a device developed in accordance with t e present invention. y
Figure 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken approximately on the plane of the line 2-2 of Figure 1. A
Figure 3 is a vertical section at right angles to Figure 1.
Figure 4: is a top plan view of the base.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of a swingable follower.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary perspective view of a humidor wick.
The gist of the invention is founded on a structural arrangement of details meclanically co-related to provide a simple, economical and ornamental humidor for cigarettes, with a screened well in the base thereof for giving off menthol vapor and fumes to permeate and treat tobacco of the cigarettes the cigarettes being supported in the humidor in a manner to be Conveniently removed.
In the drawings, the numeral 7 designates the base. This as shown in Figure 1 is provided with a marginal rectangular channel 8 and with a ccntralized depression 9 forming a Well to receive the menthol. Over this is a covering screen 10.
The surface designated at 11 in Figure 4 -is merely a clearance surface. The rectangular body portion of the box is denoted by the numeral 20, hingedly attached at 13 to the base. At an opposite point is a latch 14 carried by the base and engageable with a keeper pin 15 on the body to hold the body and base assembled. e
On the interior of the box-like body is a grate 16 which is disposed horizontally at a predetermined level to divide the structure into an uppcr com partment 17 for the cigarettes and a lower humidifier compartment 18. In the compartment 18 and just above the well is a wick 19 designed to be moistened; particularly when cigars are placed in the compart ment 17.
The lid or cover is denoted by the numeral 20 and'is hingedly attached in place as at 21. The numeral 22 designates what may be referred to as a follower and this comprises a pair of arms 23 pivotally mounted in the box '12 and having a weighted cross bar 24 to rest against the perpendicular cigarettes as indicated in dotted lines in Figura 1. This swingable frame or follower is foldabl e back into suitable grooves 26 in the end wall of the box as indicated in dotted lines in Figure 1. Thus the box may be completely filled with cigarettes by placing them .in end to end abutting relationship in a sort of stacked arrangement, as generally represented in Figure 1. The lower ends of the cigarcttes merely rest on the bars or the rods of the grate 16 so that tobacco is in a position to receive the nioistened vapors from the moistenin wick 19 as well as the ascending and medicating vapors and fmes from the menthol containing well 9.
ln actual practice, the structure may be made of wood or any suitable material, may be of any practical and enticing shape and configuration. The essential things are that it should include a suitable container for the cigarettes divided by an open-work grate into upper and lower compartmcnts, and means in the lower compartnent for supplying moisture and medicament fumcs, and that it should preferably have a follower for feeding and holding the cigarettes erect to facilitate dispensing, and that it should have a top to permit convenient insertion and removal of the cigarettes, thus providing a complete humidor and medicament a-pplicator to fulfill the requirements of a device of this kind in a highly satisfactory manner.
It is thought that the description taken in connection with the drawings will enable a. clear Understanding of the invention to be had. Therefore, a. more lengthy description is thought unnecessary.
While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been shown and described, it is to be understood that minor changes in shape, size, material, and rearrangement of parts, coming within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to in actual practice if desired, without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim: r 1. In a combination humidor and medicament applicator of the class described, a base, a receptacle hinged thereto, said base being provided With a medicament well, a horizontal open-Work grate in said receptacle dividing it intoupper and lower compartments, moistening means in the lower compartment, said upper compartnent being adapted to contain cigarettes in perpendicular stacked relationship, a hingedly mounted top for said receptacle, and a swingable follower in the as receptacle adapted to aid in holding the cigarettes in perpendioular positions and to also aid in feeding the cigarettes into close con tact With one another. i r
2. In a cigarette dispenser of the class de- 40 scribed, a base provided with a marginal channel and a centralized depression forming a nenthol containing Well, a. covering screen for said well, a rim-like body portion constituting a cigarette receptacle hngedly mounted from said base and having its lower edge portion fitting telescopically in said channel, a plurality of longtudinally spaced Parallel bars mounted in said receptaole and forming a cigarette supporting grate and di- I viding the receptaclefinto upper and lower compartments, and a cover for said receptacle. In testimony whereof I' aflix my signature.
