My invention aims to provide improvements inV pin fasteners particularly, though not exclusively useful in connection with the attachment of slip covers to upholstery.

The pin fastener illustrated by the drawings is an improvement over the well known type of campaign button fastener whichv has been used to a large extent in securing slip covers to upholstery. That type of fastener has been objectionable because it would pull loose or if provided with means to prevent pulling loose then t could be removed only with difficulty and in many cases resulted in injury to finger nails and/ or to the material to which they were attached.
My improved fastener is easy to 'attach and detach and is securely locked in place in a very simple and eective manner without injury to the material during attach- Vment or detachment. 35"
The particular device selected for illustration comprises an attaching part l and a plate part 2. The attaching part l is made of wireI and has two parallel sharp pointed legs 3 connected by a portion 4 having a bend 5 formed therein and`eXtending between and in the same direction as the legs 8, as best shown in Figs. l and 5. The plate part 2 has hinges 6 5) engaging the connectingV portion 4 at o oosite sides of the bend 5 so Pl e that the plate part may swingrelative to the attaching portion 'for purposes hereinafter described. Furthermore, the plate part `2 has a yieldable finger 7 extending from the lower end'of the plate part upwardly for a dis` 'tance substantially parallelfto and underlying the plate part,as shown in Figs. 2 and. This finger 7 then extends rearwardly from the plate part 2 to lprovide a sharp pointed slightly so that the finger 7 may be forced to prong portion 8. To attach the fastener to a structure such as that shown in Fig. 2, the plate is swung into a position substantiallyat right angles to the legs 3f Then with the plate part 2 grasped between the thumb and the first' and second fingers the sharp pointed legs 4 may be easily forced through `the slip cover 9 and into embedded relation with the upholstery l0. Thereafter the plate vpart 2V isfpressed toward the-slip cover 9-and the prong portion 8 of the yieldable finger 7 'is forced through the slip cover 9 and into the uphol- Vstery, as shown in Fig. 2, thereby securely fixing the fastenerl against accidental withdrawal. During the latter part ofthe attaching operationuthe prong portion 8 engages the bend 5 (F ig. 4) and the bend acts as a cam to sp'ringthe finger v7 so that" when. the plate part is pressed against the slipV 'cover the flattened endL` of the bend 5 willV engage` the depression 11 formed in the finger. Thusv theplate 2 is securely'looked in position and cannot accidentally be brushedinto unlock ving position.V
When the fastener is attached as above described the slipcover 9 isheld securely in l position and the prong portion 8 prevents the legs 3 from pulling out of the upholstery 10: when 'lateral stress isrexerted upon the slipy cover 9. To remove the fastener it is merely necessary to liftthe lower edge of the plate part 2 thereby pulling'the prongportion 8` from the installation.
