Description

March 15, 1932. HESSE ET L 1,849,981
CARD TABLE Filed June 5, 1929 z'zzm'mmwe, I Z'Zmr WAS i076;
INVENTORS ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 15, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ELMER N. HES SE AND EL'MEB W. STAHII, F ROSCOE, NEW YORK CARD. TABLE Application filed June 5, 1929. Serial No. 368,661.
This invention relates to a table which has its top constructed of a frame covered with composition board, with a covering of cloth or the like on the board, the general object of the invention being to provide means for so attaching the composition board and the covering to the table that the use of nails and the like is rendered unnecessary.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of theseveral parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view showing a card table constructed in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary perspective view showing how the groove is formed in the frame.
In these views, the numeral 1 indicates the and suitably secured together, such as by the angle clips 2.
In carrying out our invention, we form a diagonal groove 3 in each strip of the frame, the groove extending from a point adjacent the inner upper corner downwardly and outwardly through the inner side of the strip, as clearly shown in Figures 2 and 3. The edges of the composition board 4 and its covering 5 are bent downwardly at an angle and placed in the grooves, and if desired, glue or the like may be used to fasten the edges in the grooves. Thus the board with its covering is firmly attached to the frame without the use of nails or the like and the said edges are hidden from View so that the table will present an attractive and neat appearance.
'It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
strips having their beveled edges abutting It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
l/Vhat we claim is V A table having its top formedof a frame, the members forming the frame having downwardly diverging grooves removed from their inner edges and opening through the top surface of the frame, and a top forming member having its edges bent correspondingly to the grooves and placed therein, said top forming member consisting of a sheet of composition board and a cover of fabric.
In testimony whereof we aflix our signatures.
ELMER N. HESSE. ELMER W. STAHL.
