improvements in easy-opening containers and more particularly to the features of structure that have to do with the reclosure of the conta-iner after the end has been released by tearing away the rip strip.
An object of the invention is to provide 'a container having an inserted reclosure collar which is firmly secured to the body of the p container through 'the' aid of holding lugs formed as a part of the inserted collar.
A further object of the invention is to provide a container having an inserted reclosure collar attached to .the body of the container 7 with a cooperating closure collar carried by the end released from the container body by tearing away the rip strip and wherein said depending collar is formed from the body blank and depends below the upper score line.

The invention is directed to an easy opening container wherein the body portion is provided with score lines spaced from. each other and arranged adjacent the upper end of the container for providing a rip strip which may be torn away for releasing the end from the container body. Within the container body is a reclosure collar which is secured to the container body by novel means and whieh'projects upwardly above the lower 0 scoreline so that the upper edge of the collar when the rip strip is torn away, forms the 'upperedge of the container body. This collar is secured to the container body by formin 'yieldin 1y co lar member which may be projected outimvard movement in the container of this inbelow the double seam 3. wardly so that. the upper ends of these lugs engage beneath a shoulder on the container body. The container body is provided with an; inwardly projecting head which limits the serted collar and the lugs prevent any out- "ward movement of the collar in the container body. The body blank is folded back on itself so as to provide a depending collar which extends below the upper-score line. This folded wall of the container body is bent .into a flange and the end is double seamed to the flange. The folded back portion is on the inside'of the container and extends downwardly over the inserted collar attached to the body of the container.
' Referring more in detail to the drawings, the-container includes a body portion 1 to which an end 2 is secured by a double seam 3. There is a similar end 4 at the lower end of the container body which is secured thereto by a double seam 5. The-container body is provided with an inwardly projecting bead 6 and also with an inwardly projecting portion flat-against the side of the blank which is to form the inside of the container. The folded back portion is indicated at 9in the draw ngs." This forms a'wa-ll of, double thickness at the upper end of the container body. The wall nevertheless is formed into a flange and the flange is rolled into the double seam 3. The body is provided with a score line 10 formed in the wall of the container body just above the shoulder 8.- It is also formed with a score line 11 formed in the container body just the container body is bent inwardly so that its inner face is in alignment with the inner face of the folded back portion 9 of the body. This portion 9 depends below-the score line 11 and when the rip strip 12=formed by the score lines and 11 is torn away, there is this depending flange 9 projecting below the score line 11 and WhlCh is used for forming a reclosure for the container. The score line 11 is close to, thedouble seam 3 so that the projecting double seam protects the raw edge formed by the rupturing of the metal along the score line 11. The score line 10 is a slight distance above the shoulder 8 and this shoulder together with the inner collar protects the raw edge formed by the rupturing of the metal along the score line 10.
Within the container is a reclosure collar 13. This collar as shown is formed by rolling or drawing a piece of metal into proper shape for the collar so that the upper edge 14 of the collar is smooth and unbroken. The collar is provided with a series of lugs or fine gers'15. These lugs or fingers are formed by cutting the metal of the collar along the sides of the lugs and at the end thereof. This leaves the In s integral with the collar. The collar is pre erably made of steel and the lugs are yielding. that when 1t is placed in the formed body of the container prior to the attaching of the ends thereto, the collar makes frictional gripping contact with the portion 7 of the container wall. The lower end of the collar when it is properly seated in the container body engages the bead 6 and the lugs 15 which have been sprun back into the openings in the collar from w ich the lugs were made will now spring outward underneath the shoulder 8 and thus firmly lock the collar to the container body.

It will also be understood that this form of reclosure collar attached to the endthat is released may be used in connection with other types of. inserted collars.
The present invention is directed-particularly to means for attachin the inserted collar to the body of the container regardless of the type of collar with which it is used. It is also directed to the formation of the collar attached to the releasable end from the blank which forms the body ofthe container regardless. ofgthe construction and manner of attaching the inserted collar to the body of the container." It is also obvious that minor changes of construction and the shaping of the parts may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the'appended claims.

An easy opening container havin score lines in thebody adjacent one end forming a rip strip, said body at the upper end thereof being bent inwardly upon itself to form a double wall providing a dependt on per score ereof' ing yielding lugs formed in the body thereof and adapted to engage a shoulder in the body wall of the container 'and disposed beneath said lower score line.
