Description

mus CARD AND HOLDER Filed Aug. 18, 1931 Inventor Z6720 Sc/zoo/crafi Patented Feb. 9, 1932 UNITED STATES ZENO SCHOOLGRAFT, OF ROCHESTER, MICHIGAN PRICE CARD AND HOLDER Application filed August 18, 1931. Serial- No. 557,915.
This invention relates to certain new and useful impriweinents for holders for price cards and the like, the primary object of the invention is to provide means for supporting one or more price cards adjacent one edge of a support for shifting movement longitudinally of the support to any desired location.
A still further object of the invention is to provide means for supporting two or more price cards in vertical position one above the other adjacent a support, and shiftable relative to one another and to the support.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a price card holder far the purpose specified which is extremely simple in structure, inexpensive to manufacture, and which may be readily and easily attached to a shelf or like support.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, where- 111:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of the holder, the same being shown applied to a shelf.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of an end portion of the holder.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view, taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a detail view of Fig. 2 of a slightly modified form of the invention.
Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view of the holder shown in Fig. 4, a price card being shown as arranged thereon.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a holder having two or more spaced parallel longitudinal portions adapted to frictionally retain therebetween for sliding movement longitudinally relatively thereto, a place or price tag, so that when the holder is secured in proper position on a support, the price tags supported by the holder may be shifted to any desired location opposite to the particular article, the price of which is to be displayed.
Preferably the holder is made from a single elongated strip of metal or like resilient material, the same being so bent and shaped. as shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive, as
to provide an attaching or body portion 5 having a longitudinally extending lateral flange 6 projecting from the upper portion thereof, and the lower portion thereof being provided with a return bend 7 forming a re ceiving channel 8, the outermost wall of which merges into a downturned flange 9 forming a second longitudinal channel 10 opening downwardly opposite to the channel 8 which opens upwardly.
In using this form of the invention, the body part 5 thereof is suitably apertured for the reception of suitable fastening devices 11 whereby the part 5 is secured to the outer longitudinal edge of a shelf 12, with the channels or troughs 8 and 10 located forwardly of the shelf as clearly shown. Price cards 13 are then placed within the channels or troughs 8 and 10, the price cards at the upper sides having their lower portions received in the channel 8, and the lower price cards having their upper portions received in the channel 10, said portions of the price cards being frictionally retained within the channels, and may be readily shifted longitudinally opposite articles arranged above and below the particular shelf, the upper tags indicating the price of the articles to be supported on the shelf and the low price tags indicating the price of the article or articles supported beneath each shelf on a second shelf or other support.
In the form of the invention shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the strip of metal from which the holder is formed may be of less width than the strip from which the holder shown in Figs. 1 to 3 was formed, whereupon the flange 9 forming one wall of the channel 10 in the first form of the invention, is dispensed with, so that in this second form of the invention, there is employed but a single channel 8. In all other respects, the second form of the invention is substantially the same as the first form, and accordingly a more detailed description thereof is deemed unneccssary.
From the foregoing then it will be seen that I have completed an inexpensive holder for price cards and the like, whereby a plurality of price cards may be arranged for indicating the prices of articles disposed above and below the holder.
Even though I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiments of the present invention, it is to be understood that 5 changes may be made in the shape, size, and
arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed herein.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is In a price tag holder for application to shelves a single length of metal bent transversely upon itself to define inner and outer sides and an intervening trough for the reception of cards, the outer side being bent downward upon itself approximately at its longitudinal center thereof to expose a substantial portion of the card and to cooperate with the upstanding portion of said outer side inthe formation of a downwardly presented channel. for the reception of the upper portion of a price tag, said inner side being provided with a laterally projecting flange to rest upon the upper surface of a shelf.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ZENO SCHOOLCRAFT.
