Patented Feb. 9, IQBE JAMES VERVIE NEWMAN, F WACO, TEXAS DISPLAY CASE Application filed. September 16, 1930. Serial No. 482,337.
The present invention relates to a display case and has for its prime object to provide means whereby plate glass panels may be assembled quickly, easily and efficiently on a base in such a manner that an attractive display case is produced having a lid easy to swing to an open position.
A still further very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a display case of this nature which is exceedingly simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, thoroughly reliable in use, convenient and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
lVith the above and numerous other objects in view will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and clain'ied.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the display case embodying the features of my invention,
Figure 2 is a top plan View thereof with the cover panel removed,
liigure 2-3 is a vertical transverse section taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1,
Figure at is a perspective view of a bracket Figure 5 is an enlarged detail section taken substantially on the line 5--5 of Figure 3, and
Figure 6 is a perspective view of a corner piece.
.teferring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes a base having a plate 6 superimposed thereon. The plate 0' is in its longitudinal and transverse dimensions than the base 5 so that its ed terminate inwardly of the edges of the base 5. lBars i are mounted on the base 5 in a detachable manner by suitable screws 8 or the like. Beads 9 are mounted about the edges of the base and strips 10 are mounted to rise therefrom in spaced relation to the lri'igular corner pieces 11 are mounted in the space between the strips 7 and 10 at the corners of the base and are fastened to the strips 7 by screws 12- 01' the like.
Rear panel 14-. end panels 15, and front panel 16 rise from the spaces between the strips 7 and 10 in a vertical manner while a supplemental front panel 17 rises from the space between the front strips 7 and 10 and inclines rearwardly terminating a slight di tance below the upper edge of the front panel. U-shaped brackets 18 have overhanging end extensions 19 to be disposed over the upper edges of the panels 16 and 17 The cover or lid panel 20 rests on the upper edges of the panels lei, 15 and 17 and when the rear end thereof is raised the forward edge rests down in the bight portion of the brackets 18.
It is thought that the construction, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. A display case of the class described including a base, a plurality of panels rising from the base to form the side walls of the display case, a supplemental panel rising from the base adjacent one of the panels and inclining upwardly and inwardly brackets connecting the upper edge of the supplemental panel with the upper edge of the adj acent panel and a lid resting on the edges of i all the panels excepting the panel adjacent the supplemental panel, with a part of the lid resting on those portions of the brackets which engage the supplemental panel.
2. A display case of the class described including a base, a plurality of panels rising from the base to form the side walls of the display case, a supplemental panel rising from the base adjacent one of the panels and inclining upwardly and inwardly, means for connecting the upper edge of the supplemental panel to the upper edge of the adjacent panel and a lid resting on the upper edges of the panels, excepting the panel which is ad- 5 j acent the supplemental panel, with an edge of the lid arranged adjacent the upper edge of the inner face of said adjacent panel.
3. A display case of the, class described comprising a base, a plurality of panels rising I from the base to form the side walls of the case, a supplemental panel rising from the base adjacent one of the panels and inclining upwardly and inwardly U-shapedbrackets having hook portions at their extremities for fitting over theupper edges of the supplemental. panel and the adjacent panel one limb of each bracket being shorter than the other limb, with the hook of the shorter limb engaging the supplemental panel, and a lid resting on the upper edges of :the panels other than the panel adjacent the supplemental panel with one side resting on the short limbs of the brackets and with this edge adjacent the upper edge of the inner as face of the adjacent panel. v I
In testimony whereof I afiixmy signature.
JAMES VERVIE NEWMAN.
