My invention has in contemplation the separate marketing of the four essential parts of a pair of suspenders, namely, the main or shoulder band, the back end, and the two front ends, so that these parts may be separately purchased for replacement purposes at a fraction of the cost of the ordinary unitary Suspenders, or of the complete combinationof my unitary parts and the suspenders .forming the present invention embody in their structure features of construction which adapt them to that manner of merchandising the goods and for the facile detachment and replacement of a worn or broken part.

A further object of this invention is to make the suspender ends in such a manner that they may be used with and may be readily secured to a piece of elastic webbing, which isV merely cut o from a length or roll or webbing to comprise the main or shoulder straps, without making it necessary to hem, stitch, bind or overcast the raw or uninished ends of thewebbing, or to do anything therewith except to cut -it to the de- 425 sired length, the said ends being concealed finished ends of the shoulder bands may beV by the buckle or by the pad by which the upper ends of the front buttoning tabs are permanentlyexibly attached to the buckle.

A further object of this invention is to provide the front suspender ends with buckles permanently and irremovably attached thereto and of such a character that they securely and adj ustably clamp within them the main shoulder band, and within which the unconcealed and covered, and through which the main bands may freely slide longitudinally when the buckles are unclamped.

Other objects of my invention will appear in the specification and claims below. Referring now to the drawings forming a part of this specification and in which the same reference characters arel used throughout the various views to designate the same parts; n

The Suspenders embodying my invention comprises four complete unitary parts which may be easily assembled to form a complete pair of Suspenders, such as is illustrated in The four parts or members are respectively, the main member l, the back member 2 and two Jfront members 3-3.

lThe main member `1 comprises a single strip or band 4 of elastic webbing of the usual width which may be merely cut from a roll or spool of elastic webbing to the desired length.

The ends 4 of this strip may be raw or unfinished, it being unnecessary to hem, stitch, bind or overcast said ends as will appear below, although of course, the said ends may be finished in any desired manner. But, the main aim and purpose of the present invention is to enable one to merely purchase a piece of webbing, of suitable width, and of a length suitable for the purchasers personal needs, the same being cut by the shopkeeper to the desired length from a spool or roll ofy elastic webbing, and having purchased that length `to require the purchaser to do nothing further therewith except to pass it through the back member 2 and to secure the front ends thereof to the front members 8, as will be explained more fully below.

In a suspender, the combination of four members each constituting a separable and replaceable unit structure, namely: a main member, a back member and two like` front members; said back member comprising a pair of buttoning tabs, a slide, an elastic back strap passing through and freely sliding longitudinally through said slide, the ends of said back strap and the upper ends of said tabs being brought together in substantial alinement, covering pieces of strong, flexible '15 material covering the upper ends of said tabs and the lower ends of said back strap and stitched thereto, whereby said back strap and said tabs are connected together by a pad stuffed with the ends of said buttoning tabs; each front member comprising a pair of buttoning tabs, a buckle and a strip of flexible material stitched to the upper ends of said buttoning tabs, whereby said tabs are permanently, pivotally connected to said buckle by a soft pad stuffed with the upper ends of said nabs; said main member comprising a single length of elastic webbing looped through and freely sliding longitudinally through said slide on said back strap and having its ends securely, adjustably clamped to and concealed by said front members.
