TOY risron Application filed March 31, 1928. Sean No. 236,361.
My invention relates to' improvements in toy pistols in which a lever mounted 111 a frame resembling a pistol in appearance is employed to cast projectiles and the objects of my improvement are: first to provide a sturd and attractive frame or'su 'o'rtin member resembling a pistol in appearance; second to provide means for mounting a lever, from the arm of which projectiles may-be a manner that it rotates in a vertical plane and when depressed is concealed in the barrel of the pistol; third to provide means for rotating said lever by resilient means, through an arc of a circle and means for arresting the rotation of said lever at acertain point; fourth to provide means for holding said lever in a state of tension and releasing it at will by means of a trigger; fifth to provide sights by which the pistol may be aligned on the target.
I attain these objects by the'meohanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure l is a sectional elevation of the entire device,
Figure 2 a top plan View,
Figure 3, an elevation showing the rear sight, and V Figure 4 a perspective view showing the trigger construction. t
Similar numbers refer .to similar parts throughout the several views.
he supporting member 1 preferably stamped from sheet metal into a form resembling a pistol has a downwardly extending part -15 resembling a pistol grip and parallels'ides 16 someward ends of these parallel sides they-are connected by a pin 5, which serves as a stay or brace to impart rigidity to the sides and also serves as a pivot upon which lever. 2 is mounted. This lever has a recess 4 in the end of its upper arm which serves as a holder for projectiles. connected at 12a by means of a screw eye or otherwise, with a resilient member 11, preferably a spring, which resilient member is at tached at its other end to the supporting member by a pin 12 through the two sides of to beconfined to a particular type.
The lower arm of the lever is i Y I claim:
said'supporting member. A pin or stay bolt G'con'nects the two sides of the supporting member below and'sli'ghtly to the rearof the pivot-pin 5 forming a "of'th'e lever 2. I Y 3 stop for the lower arm Atrigg'ermemberwhich may be bentifrom i forwardly 5: extending thegrip of the supportino memberat l0, and aforwardly extending upwardly proj ecting rib' 301i. the lower arm of the lever 2 forms a front sight while 'a notchj'13 in an elevatedijtransverse platefon j "6'5 .1
the rear of the grip 15 forms arearsight; j perat'ion the upper 'arm'of the lever is presseddownward until it is concealed between the parallel, sidesfof the supporting;
member. a'Thisjbrings theend and held by the catch of thetrigger." Thede! I j of the upper arm of thelever to a point whereitis engaged J pressionof thefupp'er arm elevates the lower arin' anddraws therresilientimemberor spring into a state-of tension. E ,Afpr'ojeotile is then placed in the recess inthei device is alignedonth target by use ofthe upper arm, the 75 sights and thelever released by a pressure of p j the 'finger on thetrigger member. The recoil of the spring rotates thelever pivot in a vertical plane thus imparting ve locity to the projectile on the end of the upper arm, The rotation of the lever is halted when the lower arm of the lever comeso inlcontact with the stop between the sides of the supporting member and the projectile leaves the lever at a tangent tothe are described by the end of the lever in its motion.
Levers ofeither the first kind orthethird" upon its kind may be used in this device and I do not}.
wish to be confined to either. The lever may be actuated by elastic bands. or by spiral springs or eoil'springs of either the compresslonorexpansion variety and I do not wish Having now fully described-my invention,
l. A toy pistol comprising a handle resembling apistol in outline, a trigger, fastened to said handle,.athrowing lever, pivoted in i and sights, said sights consisting said handle,
of an elevated transverse plate with a notch therein on the rear of the handle and an elevated rib on the throwing lever above the pivot point thereof, said notch in said plate 5 and said rib on said lever being in the plane of rotation of said lever and parallelto and slightly above the handle. v 2. A to pistol comprising a trame including a stoc a barrel extending from the upper end of said stock, a lever for projecting a missile; pivotally -m011nted intermediate its ends to swing from the outer end of the barrel, a coiled spring, one end being pivotally connected to the lever beyond its pivotal point and its opposite'end connected to the pistol frame, a trigger formed from spring metal secured at its lower end to the stock of the pistol frame, its free upper end being hooked for engaging the free end of the lever to hold the same in cooked relation to the pistol barrel, and a stop on the outer end of the barrel disposed below and to the rear of the lever pivot for arresting the throw of the lever whenthe trigger is operated; V 8. A toy pistol comprising a frameincluding a stock, a barrel extending fromlthe up- 7 per end of said stock, a lever for projecting a n missile pivotally mounted to swing from the outer end oi the barrel, pistol sights formed on the lever and pistol barrel, said sights being aligned when the lever is in a cooked po sition, a coiled'spring one end being pivotally connected to the lever beyond its pivotal point and its opposite end being connected to the pistol frame, a trigger formed of spring metal secured to the stock of the pistol frame,
- its free upper end being hooked for engaging the free end of the lever to hold the same in cooked relation to the pistol barrel, and a 40 stop on the outer end of the barrel for arresting the throw of the lever when the trigger is operated.
