fl t cornegs Patented Jan. 12, 1932 I I J' UDSON S. CONNELL, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNE SOTA COMBINATION STOCK RECORD AND MERCHANDISE TAG Application filed February 16, 1931. Serial No. 515,911.
10 as a stock record tag, the second section serving both as a merchandise tag and a sales analysis tag, and the third section serving as a sold tag.
The full objects and advantages of my invention will appear in connection with the detailed description thereof, and the novel features of my inventive idea will be particularly pointed out in the claims In the accompanying drawings which illustrate a practical embodiment of my invention,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the invention showing three attached tag sections slightly separated from each other at their free ends.
F i 2 is a side elevational view also showin the three sections slightly separated at their free ends. Fig. 3 is an elevational view showing the front tag section turneddownwardly from the intermediate tag section so as to so expose the back of the front section. Fig. 4
is an elevational view of the main member of the front tag section in detached condition. Fig. 5. is an elevational view of a narrow member detached from the front tag section.
:1 Fig. 6 is an elevational View of the rear tag section after the other sections have been detached therefrom.
Referrings to the drawings, it will benoted that the tag consists of a front section 10, an
intermediate section 12, and a rear section 14.
In the condition of the device shown in Fig. 1,
the front section 10 and the intermediate section 12 are joined at their lower ends by a.
perforated line 16 and the front section 10 is provided with a perforated line 18 parallel to anda slight distanceabove the line 16, thus providing a narrow auxiliary member 20 for a purpose which will presently appear. The rear section 14 at its upper end is folded forwardly on a line 22 to provide a comparatively narrow portion 23 to the lower end of which the upper end of the intermediate section 12 is attached along a perforated line 24. An eyelet 26 is secured through the upper end portion of the tag section 14 including the narrow portion 23. The upper end of the front section 10 when the sections lieflat together comes substantially at the perforated line 24 so that the section 10 does not overlie theeyelet 26. In this manner, the eyelet does not interfere with the typing operation when the folded tag iswplaced in a typewriter for a purpose which will be explained later. The section 10 at its upper left hand corner is provided with the notation No. which is an abbreviation of the word number and near its upper end is provided with the words Stock record. On successive lines toward their lower left hand corners, the three tag sections are provided with the notations Price, Name and No, the corresponding notations on the three tags being superposed. The rear section 14 bears across its face the word Sold while the sections 12 and 14 near their upper ends are preferably 7 provided with the name of the company, firm or individual using the tag.
The operation and advantages of my in vention will be understood in connection with theforegoing description. In the-use so of the combined tag, two pieces of carbon paper are used,'one piece being inserted between the sections 10 and 12 whilethe other is inserted between the sections 12 and 1.4.
The combined tag is then inserted in' an ordia5 nary typewriter from the front. At thetop of the tag, and after the caption No. is typed the house number or manufacturers number and pattern number together with a very brief description of the merchandise. 9!!
The carbon. paper does not extend under this top portion of the tag since this information is required only on the front section, 10. The desired information istyped at the bottom of the tag after the caption No. and appears on all three sections. A more detailed description of the merchandise is then typed in the blank space under the notation Stock record and above the caption Price. The retail price is typed after the caption Price While after the caption Name? may be typed the'tradena-me of the article. The tag may then be reversedand the carbons also reversed so that any other desired information may be typed on the back of the tag. Such information might represent season letter, or month and year in which the information was received, cost price in code, etc. After the tag has been typed, the front section 10 is torn off on both lines ofperforations 16 and .18, the auxiliary member 20 being discarded sincethe purpose of this member is merely to provide'extra' space for holding'the tag in the typewriter. The section 10 is then filed ina .Kardex file or in any ordinary box, file: The sections 12 and 14 are then attached by means of a string passingthrough the eylelet24 to the merchandise during the signature. 3 V
upper end to form a comparatively narrow portion adapted to lie flat upon the main portion thereof, said intermediate section being connected at its'upper' end to the lower end of said narrow portion along a perforated line, and an eyelet passingthrough both portions of said rear section.
In testimony whereof "I hereunto afiix my JUDsoN s. CONNELL.

the section 12 is detached and sent to the oflice with the sales check or is'dep'osited in a: locked box in the department in which it is sold; Thedetaching of the section ,12
' automatically displays the Sold tag" 14.
The intermediate section 12' which I designate as the Sales analysis tag is lused first to-clear the stock record of items sold and secondly, to serve as the basis for analysis of sales, this, being' accomplished by merely sorting thetags intowhatever classifications are desired. For example, the following classification may be obtained in this manner vm3. By
1., By salesman. 2.. By territories or towns. style of merchandise. 4:. By price ranges. After the tags are sorted, it is merely necessary to run' each classification on; an. adding machine to obtain the total for a predetermined periodxof time. This classification may be made. as often as desired or for whatever period may be desired.
Theanalysis'may be made up daily, weekly, monthly or annually. 'Iclaim 1.
