BAG
Application filed .Tune 4, 1927. Serial No, 196,491.
This invention relates to bags and more particularly to hand bags such as carried by ladies.
The objects of the invention are to provide a bag which will foil sneak thieves and at the same time be readily accessible by the user; to provide a bag having a plurality of separate compartments to which access may be had from one side of the bag; to provide a construction which is readily and cheaply manufactured; and to obtain other advantages and results as may be brought out of the following description.
Referring to the accompanying drawing in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views, Figure 1 is an elevation of a bag embodying my invention; Figure 2 is a sectional view on line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and Figure 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing the flap raised.
In said drawings, reference numeral 1 indicates a bag in general having a front wall 2, a rear wall 3 and intermediate wall or partition 4. The bag accordingly provides two compartments 5 and 6. F or convenience in reference, I will refer to the wall 2 as the front of the bag and wall 1 as the rear of the bag, although this is to be understood as not restrictive as the term is merely a relative term used for convenience in description. At the top portion of the bag I provide a false frame 7 which has the appearance of being a frame which will open, and has an imitation lock 8 to add to this appearance. As shown, the said frame is a double frame and extends down the end of the bag with a false hinge 9 at the lower end thereof. The back wall 3 of the body portion of the bag extends upwardly into the rear frame section and the front section of the bag 2 extends upwardly into the end portion of the front frame section and a flap 10 is included at its upper edge in the top portion of the saidfront frame section. This flap is shown as adapted to drop down outside of front Wall 2 and may be secured thereto by any suitable releasable means such as the snap fastener 11. The partition 4 and front wall 2 are open as at 12 at the central upper portion so when the flap is turned up as in Figure 3, the rear wall 3 may be seen through said opening. The edges of said front wall and partition along the bottom of said opening are secured to hinged frame sections 13, 14, which said frame sections are releasably secured together by any well known means 15 and thereby form a pocket 5 which may be closed by closing said frame sections. Access may be had to said pocket first by raising the flap 10 and then by opening the said frame sections 13, 1 1. Access may be had to the rear pocket 6 by raising the flap 10 and thus eX- posing the opening 12.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A bag of the character described comprising a body portion having a plurality of compartments accessible through one side of the said bag, a flap covering the side of said bag to which access is had to the compartments, and a false frame exposed on the outside of said bag and flap so as to appear that access to the bag is by opening said frame. 7
2. A bag of the character described comprising a false frame, another frame independent of the first said frame and adapted to be opened and closed for gaining access to a compartment of the bag.
WILLIAM FRIEDMAN.
