In Figs, 1' and 2 a lamphood constructed in accordance with my invention is shown mounted upon and adapted to enclose an ordinary incandescent electric lamp bulb 3 which is mounted in a lamp socket 4:, said socket being mounted upon'a suitable support 2, which maybe a sign board or lampsupporting plate of an electric sign having any desired number of electric lamps provided with such lamp hoods; or the electric lamp or lamps in connection'with which my improved lamp hoods are to be used may be of any desired ordinary and well known or suitable form, and may be mounted in any desired manner upon any suitable support or structure. Y
In constructing an improved lamp hood for electric lamps, in accordance with my invention, 1 provide a hollow cup-shaped end hood member 5 which is, by preference hemispheroidal in form, and made of glass which may be of any desired color or shade or combination of colors, and may be transparent or translucent, or in part transparent and in part translucent, or opaque, or may be made of any suitable material. The hollowspheroidal or cup-shaped hood member 5 is adapted to form the closed end of a lamp hood constructed in accordance with my invention, and has an annular, preferably notched or stepped peripheral margin or rim 6 provided with alternate notches or recessed marginal portions 7 and protuberant marginal tongue or shoulder portions 8 which project or extend endwise beyond the adjacent notched or recessed peripheral marginal portions 7. The extended peripheral tongue or shoulder portions 8 are, by preference, each provided with an integral peripherally protruding securing flange or shoulder 9 which is provided with a circumferentialre'cess 10 on the back side of the flange, which recess is adapted to receive a curved or annular flexible, preferably resilient, securing member or connecting wire 11 which may be formed of spring metal or other suitable material. I also provide an annular tapered open end member 12 which is, by preference in the form of a truncated cone or tapered sleeve, formed of glass and open at both ends, the relatively small open end 13 being adapted to encircle the neck of a lamp or lamp bulb 3 and to form the open end and elongated or tapered neck portion of the hood, and the relatively large end or peripheral margin or rim 14 being, by preference, stepped or provided with alternate notches or recessed marginal portions 15 and extended marginal tongue or shoulder portions 16 which are be tween and project beyond said recessed marginal portions 15 endwise of the hood in posi-- tion to fit into and in abuttingengagement with corresponding adjacent recesses or recessed marginal portions 7 of the hemispheroidal hood member 5. The notched or re cessed peripheral marginal portions 15 of the open end hood member 12 are adapted to receive and engage correspondingad'jacent extended marginal tongues or shoulder portions 8 of the cup-shaped hemispheroidal hood member 5. And the extended peripheral marginal tongue or shoulder portions 16 on the relatively large peripheral margin or rim 1a ofthe open hood member 12 are each, by preference, provided with an integral peripherally protruding securing flange or shoulder 17, said flange having a transverse circumferential recess 18 located on the back side of the flange and adapted to receive the curved or annular circumferential resilient connecting wire 11, which is adapted to partly or wholly encircle the hood and to extend between the flanges 17 and 9, so as to securely connect and hold the periph eral margins 14; and 6 of the hood members 12 and 5 in abutting interlapping interlocking engagement with each other and thereby securely connect the hood members 5 and 12 and hold them, by preference detachably, upon and in'position to enclose or encircle a lamp bulb of an electric lamp in connection with which the lamp hood thus formed is to be used.
By making the curved or annular connecting wire 11 of resilient material, such, for example, as spring steel, and of suflicient outward, to alford a convenient means for enabling the operator to hold and spread the connecting Wire and snap it in its proper operative position around the peripheral margins or rims of the hood members 5 and 12 and between the connecting flanges or shoulders 9 and 17. The ends of the C011, necting wire may of course be connected to-, gether if desired by being bent or hooked in engagement with each other.
The hood members 5 and 12 are, in the preferred form of my improved lamp hood, made of glass; and they may be both of the same color or of different colors. And either one or the other may be transparent or translucent and connected and used in connection with a mating hood member which maybe either transparent, translucent or opaque, or in connection with one having a reflector surface. And the reflector surface may be on the member 12 as shown in Fig; 6, in which the member 12 is formed of metal or opaque material coated with porcelain or painted to form a bright reflector surface 19, or may be on the cup-shaped hood member 5,'the other hood member 12 being of glass or other transparent or translucentmaterial, but preferably glass.

1. A lamp hood comprising a cup-shaped glass hood member forming a closed end of a lamp hood, and havingan annular peripheral margin adapted to encircle a lamp bulb, a tapered annular sleeve-shaped bulb-encirclin hood member having an annular periphera margin adapted to engage said cup-shaped hood member, said hood members having alternately disposed marginal recesses in and shoulders on their engaged annular peripheral margins, each of said shoulders being located between and in engagement with a plurality of adjacent shoulders on the opposite hood member, and a flexible connecting element extendingcircumferentially of the hood and in securing engagement with marginal shoulders on both of said hood members, for connecting said hood members and holding the same in operative position with respect to the lamp bulb.
2. In a lamp hood, the combination of a cup-shaped hood member having an annular peripheral margin adapted to encircle a lamp bulb, said margin having alternate recesses and extended marginal shoulder portions, an annular sleeve-shaped hood member adapted to form an open end ofthe 'hood and having integral marginal shoulder portions adapted to extend into the marginal recesses and between and in engagement with the sides of adjacent marginal shoulders of said cupshaped hood member, and connecting means in engagement with the marginal shoulder portions of both of said hood members and adapted to secure the latter in engagement with each other.
3. In a lamp hood, the combination of a cup-shaped glass hood adapted to fit the end of an incandescent lamp bulb and having an annular end margin adapted to encircle such bulb, a plurality of end shoulders spaced apart circumferentially on said annular end margin and projecting endwise of the hood and having marginal recesses between said shoulders, an annular tapered sleeve-shaped glass hood member adapted to encircle the neck of the lamp bulb, a plurality of end shoulders on the annular end margin of said sleeve-shaped hood member and projecting endwise between and in abutting engagement with the side margins of adjacent end shoulders on said cup-shaped hood member, the end of each of said shoulders being in abutting engagement with the bottom ofa corresponding recess between said engaged shoulders on the opposed hood member, and resilient connected means encircling the engaged shoulders of both of said hood members and adapted to hold each of said shoulders in position between and in abutting engagement with the side margins of adjacent shoulders on the opposed hood member, for connecting said hood members and engaged shoulders in abutting circumferentially immovable relation to each other on the lamp bulb.
4. In a lamp hood, the combination of a cup-shaped glass hood member adapted to fit the end of an incandescent lamp bulb and having an annular bulb-encircling end margin, a plurality of end shoulders spaced apart circumferentially on said annular end margin and projecting endwise of the hood and having marginal recesses between said shoulders, an annular tapered sleeve-shaped glass hood member adapted to encircle the neck of the lamp bulb, a plurality of integral end shoulders spaced apart circumferentially on said annular end margin of said sleeveshaped hood member and each projecting endwise between and in abutting engagement with the side margins of a plurality of said end shoulders on said cup-shaped hood member, the end of each of said shoulders being in abuttin engagement with the bottom of a corresponding recess in the opposed hood member, outwardly projecting peripheral flanges on the shoulders of each of said hood members, and a resilient metallic connecting member encircling the engaged flanged shoulders and extending between and in securing engagement with the outwardly projecting peripheral flanges on said shoulders of both of said shouldered hood members, for securing said shoulders and hood members in circumferentially immovable relation to each other on the lamp bulb.
