Description

V2.5 port the arm member shown by Figure 1.
3Q ported by a window casing, said brackets con- .;35" holder which is adjustable in length- Patented Dec. 17', 1929 UNITED STATES HENRY KASBARIAN, oF Bosgnon, Massac-iicsnrcbs CURTAIN Application filed March 8,
This invention relates to means for supporting drapery curtains on a window casing, said means including brackets attachable to a window frame, and a curtain-engaging rod or rods supported by the brackets.
The object of the invention is to provide a two-part bracket of simple construction, including an inner member or plate attachable to a window casing, and a curtain-rod supporting arm adapted to be detachably secuied to the plate and firmly supported thereby, and to securely support a curtain rod.
The invention is embodied in the improved construction of the plate and arm hereinafter described and claimed.
Of the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification,-
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view, showing one of the arm members of my improved bracket, and portions of two curtainrods supported thereby.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the plate member of the bracket, attachable to a window casing, and adapted to releasably sup- Figure 3 is a perspective View of a plate member of dierent form.
Figure f1 is a top plan view, showing two of the brackets embodying the invention, supstituting elements of a non-adjustable curtain holder.
Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 4, showing these brackets constituting elements of a Figure 6 is a section on line 6-6 of Figure 9.
Figure 7 is a section on line 7-7 of Figure 6.
Figure 8 is a section on line 8-8 of Figure 7 Figure 9 is a section on line 9-9 of Figure 7.
The same reference characters indicate the same part-s in all of the figures.
My improved bracket is composed of two separable members, one of which is a plate 12, adapted for attachments by screws, or otherwise, to a window casing 13. The plate is preferably a single piece ofY sheet metal, and is provided with a pair of spacedl apart vertical sockets, formed vby vertical ears 14 bent from opposite edges of.- the plate, and horizontal ears 1 5, bent `'from the plate, and closing the lower ends of; the sockets. The vertical inner edges and; upper ends ofthe sockets are open, The plate'iis providedwith an extension between. and projecting below the sockets. i A
The other member of the bracket is a hollow arm 16, laterally projecting vertical ears 17'at itslinne'rend, removably insertible lin the plate sockets, saidr ears bearing on the, closedv ends of the sockets. A downward-ly projecting horizontal abutment ear 18 (Figures 7.A and 9) is formed on the inner end ofthe armV andl arranged: to bear on the portionoffthe eX- tension offtghe plate. 12- below the sockets, the three ears cooperating with the plate and its sockets in preventing lateral swaying anddownward sagging of the arm.
The arm 16 isv a short length of seamless tubing, which is rectangular in cross section, sol that? the plate has flat sides. rIhis form enables,A the ears 1.7? to be conveniently bent. lateral-ly from the inner ends of the flat inner and.` outer sides ofthe tubular,4 arm, and t-he ear 18 to beformed; by downwardlybending the inner endf of.l theflat under, side, the. inner endr of1 the tubulary y armY having.. slitsV 26 (Figure 6) .cut thereinto definetheends of. the ears and, permit the bendingtthereof'from themainportion offthe arm. Theouter end port-ion of: the tubular. arm maybe utilized as asocket, to receivea portion offan ornamental terr'ninal shown-by, Figure 1.
The outer end lportion of: thel arm 1 6' is apertured, to receive a curtain rod extending between two adjacent brackets, and is provided with.. a. set screw Y inserted in a tappe/dr oriice in the. upper side of,Y the arm, andy adapted toengage fd. 0.61 inserted inthe aperturedr end.
' The non-adjustable holden Sho-W11 by Fgure. 4, is. made. by.. assembling with two of# the. described brackets, a. Single, rod 20, secured tothe arms by the, set screws, and an. additional'v rod; 21, tneends-of'w1ich, are. inserted in apertures formed only in the inner sides tapped orice containing a rod-engaging set of the two arms 16, as indicated by Figure 6, no set screws being required to secure the arm 21.
The adjustable holder shown by Figure 5, is made by assembling with kthree of the brackets, the sectional rod neXt described, the brackets being alike, with the exception that the intermediate bracket includes a plate 12V (Figures 3 and 5) having an ear lbadapted Y to bear on and be attached to a downwardly facing surface 'on a window casing. The sectional rod is composed of a tubular intermediate section 23, secured by a set screw 19 to the arm 16 of the intermediate bracket, and two end sections 24, slidable in the intermediate section andfsecured by set screws to the arms 16 of the end brackets.
The sockets on the bracket plate, and the ears on the bracket arm are of such form that the sockets may be integral parts of an inexpensive sheet metal plate 12 or 12a, and the ears may be integral parts of a tubular sheet metal arm which is square in cross section, the arm being, therefore, strong and durable and having an attractive form.
I claim: n n
1. A curtain-rod bracket comprising a Hatsided plate adapted for attachment to a window casing and provided with spaced Y apart sockets which are vertically arranged when the plate is attached, and have closed lower ends, open inner edges, and open upper ends, the plate having an extension projecting downwardly between and below the sockets; and a one-piece arm having means for receiving a curtain rod and composed of a length of tubing which is rectangular in cross section and has flat sides, two opposite sides of the arm being extended and bent to forni integral vertical ears adapted to enter said sockets and abut the closed ends thereof, the lower side of the arm being extended and bent to form an integral transverse ear adapted to abut the plate extension;
2. A curtain-rod bracket comprising a flatsided plate adapted for attachment to a window casing and provided with spaced apart sockets which are vertically arranged when the plate is attached, and have closed lower ends, open inner edges, and open upper ends, the plate having an extension projecting downwardly between and below the sockets; and a one-piece arm composed of a length of tubing which is rectangular in cross section and has flat sides, two opposite sides of the arm being extended and bent to form integral vertical ears adapted to enter said sockets and abut the closed endsthereof, the
lower side of the arm being extended and bent to form an integral transverse ear adapted to abut the plate extension, the arni being laterally apertured to receive a curtain-rod and provided in itsrflat upper Yside with a screw.
