Description

J. L; PERLE-mI Er AL' GARMENT HANGER ATTACHMENT Filed April 5, 1928 Dec. l0, 1929.
Patented Dec. 10, 1929 oFFIcE JOSEPH L. PERLETH .AND JOHN COVEN, OF DBUQUE, IOWA` GARMENT-HANGER ATTACMENT Application led April 5,
The present invention relates to improvements in attachments for garment hangers and has reference more particularly to a sign having suitable advertising matter printed or otherwise arranged thereon and being attached to the garment hanger in such a manner as to render the sign conspicuous when hanging a garment on the hanger or removing a garment therefrom.
A further object of the invention is to pro` vide a garment hanger attachment of the above mentioned character that can be readily and easily attached to the hanger Without necessitating any alteration ofparts of the hanger with which the sign is associated.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a garment hanger attachment of the above mentioned character which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable, and further well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed. Y
Other objects of the invention will become apparent as the description of the invention proceeds and when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout toe several views: no Figure l is a perspective view of one form of the sign, showing the manner in which the same is attached on a garment hanger that is formed of wire. y
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof. and
Figure 3 is a view similarv to Figure 1, showing another form of the sign and its mode of attachment to the Y wire garment hanger.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of our invention, the numeral 1 designates generally a wire garment hanger of the conventional construction whichv is formed at the top with an upwardly extending shank portion 2, that terminates in a hook 3 for supporting the hanger from any suitable support.
The sign comprises a single blank of material such as metal or fiber, and this sign 4 may have any suitable advertisement or ndicaty ysign and the side edges of the tongue are 192s. serial No.' 267,658.
V tive ends with the oppositely disposed tongues or lips 5, that are Ybent over theside of the wire 4garment hanger.v j f A tongue 6 extends upwardly from the upper edge of the intermediate portionv of the v curved in opposite directions to form a pair o'flips 7 and 8 respectively which Vare kbent around the adjacent portion of the shank 2' of the garment hanger for rest on the upper v edge of thetop portion of said'garment hangs 0 er as clearly disclosed in Figures 1 and 2.
IInFigure 3 of the drawing, there is shown v a modification of the sign, wherein a pair of the tongues 9 and 10 respectively extend upwardly vfrom the 'upper edge of the intermediate portion of the sign and are disposed in spaced relation with respect to each other and lthe free ends of these tongues arebent overY the upper portion 11 of the wire2 garment hanger in opposite directions. The ends of the sign 12 shown in Figure 3 are formed with the tongues or lips 13. that are bent over the respective sides-of the garment hanger in a manner similar to which the tongues or lips 5 of the sign 4 engage with the respective ,l sides of the wire garment hanger. U
When the signis attached to the garment hanger in the manner as shown and described, the same will, at all times be visible, so that when a person is applying a garment on a d hanger or removing a garment therefrom, the sign will attract attention. The simplicity of our attachment enables the same to be manufactured at a very low cost and readily and easily attached on garment hangers of the conventional construction without necessitating any alterations of the parts of the garment hanger with which said sign is associated.
While We have shown the preferred embodiment of our invention, it is to be understood that minor changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit of the inventionV and the scope of the appended claims.v f
Having thus described our invention,
what we claim as new is:
1. In combinatiom :1L/conventional garment hanger including a pair ofarms forminga Substantial arc, a sign cut to conform to the shape of the arc, the upper edge of the sign .n fitting against the arc portionofthe hanger,
Y arms, a sign cut touconform tothe shapeof Vtlie arc, tongues` extending from the side and tongues formed on the edge ofthe sign Vand bent over the adjacent portions 'ofthe garment hanger to secure the si n in position.
2. In a garment hanger attac ment, a-sign, means for securing thesame at its ends to the respective sides'zof the hanger, an additional f meansAv at the topfof thersignfor lsecuring the same to the adjacent portion of the hanger, said `last mentioned means comprising a tongue extending upwardly from'the upper edge of the intermediateportion of the sign;
the side portions of the tongue Abeing bentA back in opposite directions for engagement with the supporting hook Aassociated with the garment hanger.
3. In combination, a conventional garment i Y hanger including a pair of-interconnected arms forming a substantialY are, and'v a.sup
vporting hookVV extending upwardly fromv the arc portion ofthe interconnected ends o f the l edgesof thesign and ,being bent over the respective arms of the garment hanger, and additional tongues larranged on the upper edgev of the `central portion of the sign and being bent about the lower end portion of the supporting hook to secure'thesignin a rigid manner within the arc portion of the.gar. menth'anger.y f
In; testimony whereof We ailix `our Signa-v tures'. n
