t I I Patented Dec. 10, 1929 omen :STAES OFFHCE E-LMER E. PAINE, OF SANTA ROSA, CALIFORNIA ADJUSTABLE POSTER FRAME Application filed October 24, 1927. Serial No. 228,185.
is adapted to stretch out the posters made of thin paper or the like and to support the same so as to present a smooth surface.
Another object of the invention is to provide an adjustable poster frame which is readily adjustable to posters of difierent sizes and in which beads are provided to reinforce the edges of the poster so as to.
prevent any undue wear thereof.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an adjustable poster frame which is collapsible and is readily portable from one place to the other. Therefore, it is rendered highly desirable for the use of different sizes of posters which must be transferred.
frequently from one place to the other.
Another object of this invention is to provicle an adjustable poster frame which is so highly useful and simple in construction. Convenience of' arrangement, lightness and comparatively low cost of manufacture are further objects which have been borne in mind in the development of the invention.
with the foregoing, will be set forth in the following description of the preferred embodiment of means for practicing the same, which is illustrated in the drawing accompanying and forming part of the specification. It is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the embodiment disclosed in said description and the drawing, as I may adopt variations of my preferred form within the scope of my invention asset forth in the claims. I The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a side elevation'of the poster Other objects of the invention, together.
frame showing. the same set up in a position to support a poster;
Figure 2 is. a rear elevation of the poster frame; i 1 Figure 3 is a section taken along the line 33 of Figure 2; Figure 4 is a detailed View of the detachable bead for reinforcing the edges of the poster, and
Figure 5 is a sectional view of the frame members taken on the line 55 of Figure 3.
' The device involvesinits general organization a telescoping frame element denoted in its entirety by the numeral 1 anda leg designated by the numeral 2. The poster frame 1 comprises an upper frame member 3. and a lower frame member 4. Each frame member is made of sheet metal bent to an L shape in cross section. v A spring clip 5 is formed atone extremity of the frame mem-, ber, while the other extremity thereof is formed inthe shape of an enlarged head 6;
The enlarged head 6 on the member 8 extends at an angle to'the face thereof on which the clip 5 is formed. The enlarged head on the other member 4 protrudes-'rearwardly from said member oppositely to the clip 5;
The enlarged head is formed preferably by retaining the original width of the member atthe'end thereof, while the rest of the member is bent to the L cross section. A transverse slot 7 is cut in each head at the unbent' edge of the member. A longitudinal slot 8 is disposed substantially at right angles to the slot 7 and at one side thereof adjacent to the bent edge of the member. The frame member 3 has a plurality of indentations 9 thereon. i
The lndentations form corresponding protrusions on the top of said frame member. As
the indentations have approximately the same general dimensions, they readily engage thebeads at the ends thereof. A poster 10 is shown secured in the frame in Figure 1. Detachable beads, denoted in their entirety by the numeral 11, comprise two bars 12 and 13 pivotally secured, to each other at one end thereof, the bar 13 having a bent edge 1 thereon ad e to be Press d a ai st he corresponding straight edge of the bar 12. The edge ofthe poster 10 iinserted' between the bars 12 and '13 and is Wrapped around the bar 12. Then the bar 13 is turned around the pivot point so that the bent edge 14: presses the paper against the edge ofthe'bar 12'. The detachable beads, with the paperv attached thereto, are then pressed into the spring clip 5. e e
The frame members are so disposed, that the spri g clips are on the outsideends thereo'ffan d the enlarged heads 6 thereon hold. the adjacent frame member bymeans dfslo ts 7 i The straight portion of theframernember pas es, that the slot i eb a manner t thestraightening ont of 1 two frame memhers so as to form an ex ension of each other presses the frame member againstthe op pd sitef a e of sloti,therebyfholding the frame members in place, The friction be tween the indentations of the upper. frame member and the protrusions on the lower, frame memberl aresufiicient'to prevent any? accidental islipping, of the fra me members relative to, each other. After the poster presents a smooth surface in the frame 1, the fork is placed in a position to engage the longitudinal slot 8 in the loop 6 of the lower frame member at, and the leg 2 is pivoted rearvvardly far enough tosuppOrt the poster in a'desired inclined position. i
In manufacturing the device, While the varioiis elements maybe constructed in any suitable manner and of any suitable material, yet it is preferable to form the same from sheet metal stamping on account of the cheapness, lightness, and strength of the lates i t rr pe t r o these eta ls i ma ufacturing, the essential features of vention arealways preserved. k i if 7 It ill be recognized that a particularly facile device is provided top accomplish the above described method of supporting t er ,Yand oneivhich combines light weightantl,
