Description

- J. G'ARVIN. i DIES'FOR MAKING BODY-LOOPS FOR CARBIAGES.
No.173,s54. Patented-Feb. 22 1876.

ww aww N. PETERS, FHOTO LITHOGRAPNER. WASHINGTON. D C. v
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE JOHN GARVIN, OF WEST MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN DIESFOR MAKING BODY-LOOPS FOR CARRI A GEST Specification form ng part of Letters Patent No. 173,854, dated February 15, 1876; application filed January 15, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J OHN GARVTN, of Wes I Meriden, in the-county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in making Body-Loops for Carriages, of which the following is a specification Figure 1 is a face view of the dies by which my improved body-loops are formed. Fig. 2 is a section of the same taken through the line w m, Fig. 1, the dies being put together.
'Fi g. 3 is a detailed section of the same, taken by which they are secured to the spring-bars. 1
The invention consists in the two sets of dies, consisting ofthe forming-dies, made with recesses to form the lug, head, and prong,
and the finishingdies made with the recesses, and the projection to finish the loops, and form the countersink for the bolthead, as hereinafter fully described.
A and B are the dies by which the form is given to the body-loop C. The dies A and B strike up the loopC, form its edges, and are made withrecesses a. b to form the lug 0 with recesses a b to form the head 0 and with recesses a b to form the prong 0 The burrs formed upon the upper and lower sides of the loop C are then trimmed 011', and the loops C are struckup in the dies D E, from their upper and lower sides, to finish them, and to form the square tapering countersink in the head 0'. The die D is formed with a recess, d, to receive the lug c and the die E is formed with recesses e and 6 to receive the head 0 and the prong 0 In the bottom of the recess e is formed a projection, 0 to form the countersink in th head 0 The two dies A Band D E may be formed in the same pair of blocks, as shown in Fig. 1, or they may be formed in separate pairs of blocks, as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Jointly the two sets of dies, consisting of the forming-dies A B, made with'recesses a a a b b b to form the lug head and prong, and the finishingdies D E, made With the recesses 01 6 c and the projection 0 to finish the loops, and form the countersink for the bolt-head, substantially as herein shown and described. JOHN GARVIN.
