This invention relates to a steel vault designed to be used in banks and other business houses for the protection of employees against robbers or bandits, and t 1e general object of the invention being to provide a vault struc ture mounted upon Wheels whereby it may be readily shifted from one portion of a bank or business house to another and into which an employee can step in case of robbery, the vault being equipped with firearms and being formed with loop-holes for the discharge thereof.
A further object is to provide a vault of this character formed in two sections, one of which is telescopic within the other and providing means whereby the two sections may be shifted relative to each other to thus increase or decrease the size of the vault in accordance with'the requirement for space or convenience.
Other objects will appear during the course of the following description.
The invention is illustrated in the following drawings in which Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view of a safety vault constructed in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the vault;
Fig. 3 is an elevation of the opposite end of the vault;

Referring to these drawings it will be seen that the vault consists of two sections A and B, the section B being telescopic within section A. Each of these sections is formed of sheet steel of any desired or required thickness and each section may be constructed in any approved manner as regards the fitting together of the sheet steel and the structural features thereof. The vault is'provided in either one of its walls 10 with a doorway 11 having a door 12 which will preferably be fastened or latched from the interior of the section. This door may be hinged in any suitable manner. The two sections are each provided with floor engaging rollers 13 whereby the sections may be supported and the smaller section B may be provided with rollers l4: engaging with tracks 15 formed in 192s. seriallt o.2872116..

The top walls of both sections are provided with ventilating openings 16 which may be in the form of louvres or' any suitable ventilatingopenings may be used, it"being. preferable that these ventilating openings maybe so constructed as to prevent robbers or bandits from' shooting intothe interior of the vault through these openings. The front Wall of the section B may be provided with a longitudinally extending window 17, while the section A or outer section is formed with a longitudinally extending opening" 18 adapt i ed to 'aline with the opening of the windowj 17, this'opening 18 preferably.extending to the open end of the section A, thus the window 17 will be disclosed through the, opening 18 in any p-osition of the section B relative to section A. p L
A counter or shelf 19 is mounted upon" section B beneath the opening 17 andsliding metallic shutters or shields 20 which are mounted upon the sectionA so that they may I he slid across all that portion ofthe opening 18 which isinwardof the window 17,, suitable locking devices as for instance a latch or; hook 20 being, ofcourse applied for the purposeof locking the shutters in their adjuste'd positions. For. the purpose of adjusting the two sections with relation to each other, I have illustrated a cable 21'which is attached at one end to the closed end of section A and extends longitudinally along the section A beneath the roof thereof or in any convenient position, and extends into section B and is en- 1 gaged with a winding roller or winch 29 mountedupon the wallv 23, which closes the end of this section. Suitable'means, as for instance a pawl engaging the winch, will hold the winch in its set position and the cable wound upon the winch and thus will hold the sections in their adjusted positions. The vault may be made of a standard size, as for instance, seven feet long by six and I one half feet in height when elongated to 1 its full size, but can be reduced in length to three and one-half feet by winding up on a small chain or cable 21, previously referred to. What I claim is 1. A vault for business houses and banks formed of two telescopic metallic sections having means for entrance and exit, and
\ means whereby said sections may be adjusted into each other and held in their adjusted positions, the inner section being formed with V "a window and the outer section having a V longitudinally extending opening alining with the window whereby the window will be exposed in any adjusted positions of the two sections.
2. A vault for business houses and banks formed of two telescopic metallic sections having. means for entrance and exit and means whereby said sections may be adjusted into each other and held in their adjusted positions the inner-section being formed with i a window and the outer section having a longitudinally extending two sections, the'end of said opening remote from the inner section being provided with shields adapted to be adjusted to close the space between the window opening of the 1 first named section and the adj acentedge of the wall of the second named section.
