Description

A. HALL.
CARTRIDGE. No. 173,538.
Patented Feb. 15,1876.
ALBERT HALL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT lN CARTRIDGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l73,53,datcd February 15, 1876; application filed January 22, 1876.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to an improved method of securing the anvil to the shell of shot-gun cartridges; and consists in securing the anvil by projecting points or studs in recesses of the shell, and holding the same by a sheetmetal cap-piece at the base of the shell.
In the drawing, A represents the paper shell of a cartridge for shot-guns, and B the cap-piece that is spun or pressed around the base part of the shell to re-enforce the same. The anvil 0 extends diametrically around the shell, and is firmly secured thereto by projecting side spurs or points a, that pierce the shell, and by top points or studs 1), that are fitted into recesses of the shell." The central projecting part (1 of the anvil extends through the perforated socket-head of the cap-holding cavity, to be there brought into contact with the percussion-cap seated in the socket. The base-encircling cap-piece B binds the anvil rigidly to the shell, and imparts thereby the degree of solidity and resistance'required for the discharging of the cartridge.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination, with paper shell A and cap B, of a diametrical anvil, O, secured by side spurs a, that pierce the shell, by, top studs 1),
that fit recesses of shell, and by central projection d, that passes through perforated head of cap, as and for the purpose specified.
