IMPROVEMENT IN SMPLE-CARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,408, dated February 15, 1876 application filed June 10, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
shades of various colors, directions whereby any oi' these shades of color may4 be produced by the admixtnre of certain designated colors with a lixed quantity of White paint, the proportions in which these colors are to be added being apparent at a glance at the card.
The drawing explains itself so far that but a brief literal description is necessary. On the upper portion ofthe card are the various shades and hues ot' the various colors. may be printed on the card, or be pieces of iiexible painted material cut into squares or disks, and pasted to the card, as is lnost convenient. Each shade or hue is designated by a letter or figure, orit's name.. Just below the 4colors are the directions for producing any of them. lFor convenience, the necessary colors to produce any ot'V these shades are put up in small cans containinga specific quantity, and the white paint to which these colors are to be added is put up in one-gallon cans, so as to avoid mistakes and trouble in measuring out the quantities. The color on the card having been selected, the proper quantity of the color These ered from the card, thus having them and the color-plates separate literally; but of course to accomplish the object of the invention, in their use they would virtually be still coinbined. Each would still have a direct bearing on the other. Thus, in placing the directions on a can, these directions oi' themselves would be ot' no advantage or use without the color-plate to refer to, and vice versa. I
.therefore do not claim each separately; but
What I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Tlle color-plate and literal directions for pro-- ducing any shade or'hue of any color thereon,
when both are arranged relatively to each other on the same card, substantially as"de scribed and specified.
