FRAME CONSTRUCTION Application filed November 10, 1928. Serial No. 318,340.
This invention relates to improvements in the construction of frames, particularly frames used in the construction of lamp shades or the like, and it is the principal ob- 5 ject of my invention to provide a novel and improved connection between the crown and the frame bars or wires doing away with soldering etc, which frequently is the cause of the formation of rust at the soldered places.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a simple and inexpensive lamp shade frame construction, yet durable and efficient in operation and use.
A still further object of my invention is the provision of a crown for the frames of lamp shades or the like provided with a plurality of loops adapted for the reception of the ends of the radial wires forming the frame which are then pinched or nipped to prevent their disengagement from the crown.
These and other objects and advantages of my invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be specifically defined in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a crown constructed according to my invention to be used in the construction of lamp shade frames and the like.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 3--3 of Figure 1.
Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of the crown, 5 Figure 1, with the pinched wires in position.
Fig. 5 shows a wire used in the construction of lamp shades before being pinched.
Fig. 6 is a view similar to Figure 5 showing a wire pinched or nipped.
As illustrated, the usual crown for a lamp shade frame or the like, made of meta]. or similar suitable material has preferably a roof 10 of hexagonal shape, and a ring shaped depending body 11. Near three of its corners, the material of the crown is formed with depressions 12 so as to produce depend ing loops 13 on the underside of roof 10 for the reception of the ends of wires 14 used in the formation or construction of the lamp shade frame. The ends of the wires 14 are radially introduced into the loops 13 and are then pinched or nipped, as at 15, between the inner side faces of the loop and the ringbody 11.
It will be clear that in this manner crown and wires are firmly connected without the use of special fastening means such as solder, which are frequently the cause of rust formation and consequent breaking of the connection at the soldered places.
It will be understood that I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention only, and that I may make such changes therein as come with the scope of the appended claims without departure from the gist of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A lamp shade frame comprising a hexagonal crown having a central opening and a slanting roof, a ring-shaped depend ing body having inner threads integral with said roof, a plurality of depending loops formed on the underside of said roof by depressions in its material, a plurality of wires adapted to engage with one of their ends said loops and to pass therethrough, the ends of said wires being pinched or nipped behind said loops in front of said ring-body, for firmly connecting wires and crown.
2. A lamp shade frame comprising a hexagonal crown, having a central opening therein, a ring-shaped depending flange formed with said crown and provided with inner threads, a roof formed with said crown slanting downwardly at its corners, three depending loops formed on the underside of said roof at the corners thereof by depressions in the same, wires for forming the body of the lamp shade adapted to be radially introduced with their ends into said loops, said wire ends being pinched or nipped between the inner side faces of the loops and said ring-shaped flange.
