This invention relates to devices for use in training hair and is illustrated herein as embodied in a coil clamp curler and end trainer.

An important object of the present inven tion consists in providing an improved device for use in maintaining a coil of hair in a curled condition for such a period of time that the coil remains curled after the device has been removed. An important feature of the invention consists in the provision of two plates having smooth inner surfaces that are adapted to engage the opposite sides of a coil of hair, and resilient means for applying pressure to the outside surfaces of the plates to urge them towards one another, whereby the coil of hair is clamped firmly between them. In the device illustrated in the drawing, the fiat plates are provided with projections on their outer surfaces which are adapted to be engaged by recesses formed in the legs of a spring clamp member which holds the plates firmly against displacement.

Other features and objects of the invention will become apparent from a reading of the following specification in the light of the accompanying drawing in which:

Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation, partly in section, of the device shown in Fig. 1, and

Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken along the lines 33 of Fig. 2.

As shown in the drawings, the reference numerals 10, 12, comprise a plurality of plates, or disks, having flat inner surfaces and outer surfaces that are uninterrupted except for projections 14,16, formed at the center of each plate. These plates form the major part of the curler, in the use of which the end of a strand or look of hair A, which is dampened, is coiled by hand, as shown at B, and is held in a coiled position while the disks 10, 12, are brought into engagement with the opposite sides of the coil.

that may be mounted upon the disks to hold them in the manner indicated. As illustrated, the clamp comprises a bowed portion 18 having downwardly extending outer legs 20, 22, which are turned outwardly at their bottom extremities 24:, 26, and are thence bent backwardly upon themselves to form inner legs 28, 30. Recesses 32, 34, are formed in the inner legs midway of their lengths and are arranged for interfitti 11g engagement with the projections 1 1, 16, formed on the outer surfaces of the clamping plates or disks. It will be appreciated that, by constructing the clamp of resilient material, the device may be used with equal facility in coiling strands of various thicknesses without unduly pressing or ironing out the hair.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

1. A coil clamp curler and end trainer, comprising in combination, a plurality of clamp plates having smooth inner surfaces for engaging the opposite sides of a coil of hair, and a resilient clamp engaging said clamp plates and tending to force same toward and in registration with one another and in engagement with the coil of hair.

2. A coil clamp curler and end trainer, G011": prising in combination, a plurality of clamping disks having smooth inner surfaces for engaging the opposite sides of a coil or strand of hair, projections formed on the outer surfaces of the disks, and a resilient clamp provided with recesses for interfitting engagement with the projections on the disks and adapted to maintain the disks in registration with one another and in firm engagement with the coiled strand of hair.
