Description

Oct. 15, 1929.
H. E. SLADE ELECTR IC OUTLET DEVICE Filed Feb. 21. 1927 INVENTOR: fi/ v/Pazflf 54/70 v V Patented Oct. 15, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HAROLD E. SLADE, 0F GLEN RIDGE, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO BEAVER MACHINE & TOOL 00., INC., OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY ELECTRIC OUTLET nnvrcn Application filed February 21, 1927. Serial No. 169,813.
My invention relates to a new and useful electrical outlet device, and it relates more particularly to an electrical outlet device adapted to receive the conventional blade or other type of electrical connector, and one which is particularly adapted to receive and to be wired with a duplex electrical cord, either extending through the electrical outlet device or terminating therein, as may be desirable, and adapted to be secured to the wall or other support in a rigid manner.
My invention relates more particularly to an electrical outlet device of the character stated, adapted for use in connection with duplezr electrical cord, and one which may be wired with said duplex electrical cord and subsequently attached to the wall or other support with great ease and facility, and without any unusual skill, and hence may be installed by any one, on the wall or the like, of dwellings, oihces or industrial establishments, in a quick and easy manner.
With the above ends in view, my invention consists of a two-part insulating housing, pairs of parallel blade receiving recesses in said housing, pairs of corresponding spring contact members in said recesses, adapted to receive the blades of a conventional electrical connector, inserted into said recesses from Without, and having inner wire engaging means adapted to receive the two electrical conductors of a duplex electrical cord, and means for securing the two parts of the housing together and for securing the entire housing to a wall or other support, in a quick and detachable manner.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention, I have shown in the accompanying drawings, forms thereof which are at present preferred by me, since they will give in practice, satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention 0011- sists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of these instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like reference characters indicate like parts;
Figure 1 represents a top plan view of an electrical outlet device embodying my invention.
Figure 2 represents a section on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 represents a section on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
In Figures 1, 2 and 3 I have illustrated an embodiment of my invention in which the housing 1, instead of being divided transversely, that is, transversely of the axis thereof, is divided longitudinally of the axis thereof into two symmetrical halves 38 and 39, respectively, thus intersecting or dividing the blade receiving recesses 4: and 5. In this embodiment of my invention, the spring contact members 6, are similarly disposed within the recesses 1 and 5 and each of the two halves 38 and 39 of the housing 1, is also provided with recesses 40, communicating with the contact members. Each of the two halves 38 and 39 are also provided with the semicylindrical recesses 41, adapted to receive the head end of a screw or other fastening devices 42, and an axial opening 43 in alignment with the opening 41, through which a screw driver or other suitable implement may be inserted into contact or operative engagement with the screw or other fastening devices 42, for the purpose of attaching the same to a wall or other support.
A pair of suitably aligned transverse aper tures 4 1 are also provided in the two halves 38and 39 of the housing 1, through which suitable screws or other fastening means 45 are extended, each having a nut 46 at the threaded end thereof, whereby the two halves of the housing may be rigidly secured to each other. I
In'use, the electrical outlet device of my invention shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3, after being properly wired the head end of the screw 42 is inserted into the recess 11 and the halves of the housing are then secured to each other by means of the screws 45. The wired and assembled electrical outlet devices, having the screws 42 positioned therein, may then be attached to any wall or like support, by suitably aflixing the screw, nail or the like 42 in said wall or the like, by means of a screw driver, nail set or other implement inserted through the aperture 43.
It will be seen from the foregoing, that I have devised a novel electrical outlet device,
5 which may be wired quickly and without the exercise of skill and which upon being wired may be assembled "and mounted upon any wall or other support in the assembled condition. I
I am aware that-the invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential attributes thereo and I therefore desire the present embodiment to be considered in all respects 5 as illustrative and not restrictive, reference being had to the appended claims rather than to the foregoing description to indicate the scope of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is 1. An electrical outlet of the character stated, comprising a two part longitudinally divided insulating housing, blade receiving ,25 recesses in said; housing, terminating in the outer end thereof, blade engaging spring contacts disposed within said recesses, having wire engaging means at their inner ends, fastening devices common to the two parts of said housing and extending transversely thereof there being an axial, opening formed through said housing when said two parts are positioned together, said fastening devices being adapted to secure the same 1n assembled relation to each other and a single mounting screw having its head end anchored in said housing, and having its threaded end projecting therefrom, the head of said screw being in alignment with said axial opening to permit the insertion of a screw driver.
'2. An electrical outlet device of the character stated, comprising an insulating housing divided longitudinally at the axis thereof and composed of two symmetrical housing members spaced apart longitudinally dis-- posed blade receiving recesses in each of said ousing members, spring contacts fitted within said recesses, means for preventing endwise movement of saidspring contacts, fas- 5 teningmeans passing transversely through said housing members, there being an axial opening formed through said housing when said housing members are secured together, and a single fastening screw having its head clamped between said housing members in proximity to the inner endof said housing, and its threaded portion projecting from the latter, the head of said screw being in' alignment with said axial opening to permit the insertioniof a screw driver.
