Description
Patented oa, s, 1929 UNITED STATES HANS XLASEN, OF COLOGNE-WORBINGEN, GEBMANY BENEWABLE SAFETY FUSE Application led March 19, 1927, Serial No.
Thepresent invention has reference to improvements in safety fuses for guarding elec,- trical circuits and apparatus of various kinds, and it relates more particularly to a renewable safety fuse of the plug or cartridge type,
and the specific object of the invention is to provide in the safety device a conducting and fusible member in the form of' a strip or lamellawhich is held merely by friction between opposed contact clips and which, upon the fuse -having been blown by overload, can readily be replaced by a similar lamella without the use of tools. r
My invention will best be understood when described in yconnection with the accompanying drawing illustrating a preferred embodiment, in which Fig. l is a vertical longitudinal section through the safety device; Fig. 2 is a horizontal section, Fig. 3 a plan view, and Fig. 4 a front view thereof. l
The cartridge body 1, if insulating (preferably ceramic, material, is provided with a passage 1a extending therethrough from side to side thereof for the reception of the fusible linkvlamella 2 and its support clips 3 and 30 clamping respectively. One end 10 of the body 1 is covered by the metallic cap 4, and the other end thereof has a nipple-'like extensin 100 sheathed by the metallic thimble 40. The
Y 30 j front cover 4 is current-conductingly connected with the metallic contact clip 3 by the metallic screw pin 5, and the thimble 4 is electrically connected with the metallic contact clip 3 0 by the metallic screw pin 50. The pins 5 and 50 may be soldered, vriveted, weld ed, or otherwise current-conductingly secured to the respective cover members 4 and 40. The pins are threadedat their inner ends, and the contact clips 3 and '30 have an internal thread and coact with the pins andl act as nuts to retainl the contact parts in place. etweenthe clips alamella 2 of a suitable fusible materialis inserted, Whose clamped end portions, after the fuse has 1 blown, can readily be removed for the inser- --tion of a fresh lamella.
Bjr-theprovision of the passage extend- 111g entlrely through the body two open s ides are presented throuvh either one of which a 176,720, and in Germany December 3, 1926.
ing lgreater convenience in applying and re moving fuses when the fuse holder is arranged in a confined space, as well asV greater convenience in assembling the parts of the fuse holder in the factory. In the event also of the sticking of a blown fuse, or of the necessity of adjusting or replacing a clip, where the fuse holder is arranged in a contracted space, these opposite open sides permit of the introduction of the fingers or tools from both sides, so that the fuse may be released and removed or the clip adjusted or repaired with greater ease and expedition.
In a renewable safety fuse of the character set orth,'in combination, a ceramic body havinv an opening extending therethrough from si e to side thereof, a reduced cylindrical extension integrally projecting from one end face of'said body, a metallic cover for said reduced body extension, a metallic cover for the other end of the body face, metallic screw pins extending from the said metal covers through the ends of said body into the opening, metallic contact clips threaded on the inner ends of said screw pins for clamping coaction with -the respective metal covers, and a fusible lamella held between said con-V tact clips and adapted to be applied and removed through either side of the opening in the body. v
In testimony whereof I aix 1n signature.
. HANS ASEN.
