This invention relates to a unitary double stopper, especially adapted to close the filler opening in the brine tank Within a refrigerator cabinet and the opening in the outer wall of the cabinet itself in registration with the brine tank filler opening.
An object of the invention is to provide a simple, eflicient and very economically manufactured unitary double stopper for closing two substantially aligned and spaced openings such as mentioned above.
In present day ice cream cabinets the brine tank is located slightly below the outer heat insulating wall of the refrigerator cabinet and the cabinet wall is provided with an opening in substantial alignment with the brine tank filler opening. Heretofore each of these openings has had an individual stopper and it is often very diflicult to remove the lower stopper since there is no easy access to it. By means of this invention both stoppers are easily removed or inserted by hand, simply by catching hold of the projecting cap portion on the upper stopper.
Further objects and advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing wherein a preferred embodiment of one form of the presen invention is clearly shown.
The figure is a vertical section through the filler openings in an ice cream cabinet brine tank therein and the unitary double stopper for said openings.
The heat insulating wall 10 of the cabinet is shown as having a wood wall 11 covered with a sheet metal outer cover 12, an inner layer of heat insulating material 13 such as cork board, and an inner metal lining 14. The metal brine tank 15 is located a short distance below the metal lining 14 as clearly shown. The brine tank has a filler opening 16 cut in the metal thereof and the edges of the opening are rolled down as shown to form a smooth circular flange 17 around the opening 16. The cabinet wall 10 is provided with an opening 20, preferably somewhat larger in diameter than opening 16. A
sleeve 21, preferably of some suitable heat insulating material such as fibre board, is insnugly within and seals opening 16. Plugs 26 and 27 are connected together by the intermediate shank portion 28, which is preferably of a somewhat harder and more rigid rubber in order to permit the bottom plug 27 being pushed firmly in place by catching hold of the top plug 26.
Preferably the top plug 26 has inte rally molded thereupon a cap portion 29 0 hard rubber of such quality that it can be highly polished for the sake of neat outer appearance. Also by having the cap portion 29 of hard rubber the name of the maker or some ornamental design may be easily molded therein, if desired, to further enhance the appearance thereof. All the portions 26, 27, 28 and 29 of the rubber stopper 25 are integrally molded in a vulcanizing die at the same time,
, the pro er vulcanized rubber compounds for the di erent portions being so chosen that each portion will vulcanize to the varying desired degree of hardness or softness while the stopper 25 remains in the vulcanizing mold. The lines of division between the different kinds of rubber are approximately indicated by the broken lines shown in the drawing, but of course these lines of division may vary considerably.
While the form of embodiment of the present invention as herein disclosed, constitutes a preferred form, it is to be understood that other forms might be adopted, all coming within the scope of the claims which follow.
What is claimed is as follows:
1. As an article of manufacture, an integrally molded rubber double stopper having two soft rubber plugs interconnected and held in spaced relation by a relatively hard rubber portion.
2. As an article of manufacture, an integrally molded rubber double stopper having two soft rubber plugs interconnected and held in spaced relation by a relatively hard rubber portion, and a hard rubber cap portio for one of said plugs adapted to take a polish.
3. A unitary double stopper for closing two substantially aligned and spaced openings comprising: two elastic rubber stoppin plugs and an interconnecting relatively rigid rubber stern spacing said elastic plugs according to the spacing of the openings to be closed thereby, whereby both of said elastic plugs may be easily inserted in its corresponding opening at one time.
