Description

E. VON ARX' 1,730,022
5 BY MEANS OF WATER UNDER PRESSURE Oct. 1 1929.
DEVICE FOR CLEANING TOBACCO PIPE Filed Nov. 22, 1926 EfvHL VON A INVENT L Patented Oct. 1, 1929 EMIL VON ARX, OF OLTEN, SWITZERLAND DEVICE FOR CLEANING TOBACCO PIPES BY MEANS OF WATER UNDER PRESSURE Application filed November 22, 1926, Serial No. 149,869, and. in Germany November 30, 19%5.
This invention relates to devices for cleaning tobacco pipes or cigar holder or the like by means of water under pressure. The cleaning device forming the subject-matter of the invention differs from known devices of this kind substantially in that it is con nected not to the head or bowl of the pipe to be cleaned but to its mouthpiece or any other part of the smoke conduit. For this purpose the improved device that comprises a cup-like shell or funnel possesses a hollow screw-threaded tubular portion for connection to the mouthpiece or smoke conduit by screwing it into the duct of the pipe. There is thus only a small surface present that requires to be rendered fluid-tight and both parts, namely the pipe and the device, can be readily held in one hand and be connected by it to a water-supply faucet while the other hand regulates the water pressure. The pipe cannot be forced away from the said screwed tubular portion by the water pressure because no counterpressure is produced such as is present when the bowl is connected to the faucet. The nicotine deposit is washed away from the mouthpiece towards the bowl out of the smoke duct. The water leaves the bowl without pressure and therefore does not splash the person using the device.
0 One embodiment of the invent-ion is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing in vertical section.
Referring to the drawing, a sheet-metal cup or funnel 1 which is provided with a liner 2 of rubber or the like for connecting it watertight to a water supply faucet, has at its outlet end a conical tube 3 having an external sharp screw-thread of fine pitch. When the device is not in use a closure cap 40 (not shown) is screwed on the tube 3, which of tobacco without the use of any additional implement.
The invention is not restricted to the pie cise constructional details enumerated.
I claim:
A. device for hydraulically cleaning pipes, cigar and cigarette holders and the like, comprising a metallic shell of substantial depth and width having an open flaring mouth and a downwardly tapering lateral Wall with a perforated bottom of smaller size than the open mouth, a compressible liner or gasket I closely embracing the inner face of the lateral wall and having a downwardly tapering inner wall adapted to tightly engage faucets of different diameters, and integral with the shell, a tubular metallic member having its bore communicating with the perforation in the bottom of the shell, said tubular member being of taper formation with its greatest width adjacent the bottom of the shell and having exterior threads extending from the bottom of the member to a point near the top thereof, whereby said tubular member may en 'age smoke passages of different diameters.
bigned at Berne, Switzerland, this 9th day of November 1926.
cap may carry a cleaning needle or the like for insertion into the tube 3.
When using the device, after removing the cap the delivery tube 3 is screwed into the bore of the mouthpiece or smoke conduit of the tobacco pipe or cigar-holder or the like to be cleaned. A firm fluid-tight joint is thereby made between the funnel 1 and the tobacco pipe or cigar holder or the like. The funnel is then held by one hand which at the EMIL VON Alt-X.
