Description

Oct. 1, 1929. A. BORNAND TALKING momma Filed Sept. 24, 1926 Patented Oct. 1, 1929 PATENT @FFECE ADA'LBERT BORNAND, OF LONDON, ENGLAND TALKING MACHINE Application filed September 24, 1926, Serial No. 137,588, and in Great Britain March 8, 1926.
My invention relates to a talking machine, the distinctive feature of which is that it comprises a box with lid in which can be shut up, While the apparatus is at rest, the various parts of same and on the bottom of which is fixed a frame for the motor as well as a socket carrying, while the apparatus is at rest, the diaphragm with the stylus and securing, while the said apparatus is running, by a hole into which its rear end may be fitted, the
hollow arm designed to receive the diaphragm.
The accompanying drawings illustrate one manner of adapting for use the device pro- 1 vided by my invention. Fig. 1 shows a view on the horizontal plane; Fig. 2 shows a longitudinal section; Figs. 3 and 1 show plan and longitudinal sectional views of the lid removed, the latter View being taken on the 29 line IVIV of Fig. 3.
1 is a box-shaped casing of metal with a lid 2. On the bottom of the box are lined a frame 3 for the motor and a socket of wood As usual the motor consists of a spring drum to be wound up at 5 and drives a vertical shaft 6, which bears the washer 7. It is between the said washer and the milled nut 8 that the talking machine record is placed. For braking the motion of the latter, a system of coupled rods 9 may be used. 11 represents the box containing the diaphragm and carrying the stylus. 12 is the tone arm which, when the apparatus is running, fits in the mouth 13 of the socket 4 and receives, at the other end, the box 11. 14 refers to a crank fitting onto the head 5 for the winding up of the motor.
The lid 2 shows both a projection 15 covering the washer 7 and a hole for the passage of the shaft 6. Like the talking machine rec- 0rd, this lid, therefore, is heldin place against the washer 7 by the milled nut head 8. On the side opposite to the one showing the projection, the lid has also a groove 16 into which the rim17 of the lid 1 gets enga ed.
l laving thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a talking machine, a box, a lid there- ADALBERT BORNAND.
