Description

T. G. HITT Sept. 10, 1929.-
COMBINATION FIRECRACKER WRAPPER AND LIGHTER Fil ed Oct. 1, 192a Patented Sept. 10, 1929.
UNITE THOMAS G. HITT, F SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
COMBINATION FIRECRACKERS WRAPPER AND LIGHTER.
Application filed October 1, 1928.
This invention relates to firecrackers in combination with a chemically treated band for holding the packet thereof together, the band being a combination wrapper and lighter.
In the ordinary use of firecrackers, it is customary to ignite each one separately,
either with separate matches, or by means of the familiar Chinese punk. But much inconvenience and difiiculty is found in the use of matches particularly in a wind, and the punk may be added expense, and is inconvenient to carry, and in practice is frequently forgotten or not on hand when needed;
It is therefore among the objects of this invention to provide an absorbent band for holding a bunch of firecrackers in packet form for transportation, which band is chemically treated to provide means to support slow burning combustion, and suitable to be rolled or folded, and provide a slow match for igniting the firecrackers.
lVith these and other objects, I have illustrated my invention by the accompanying drawings; of which Figure 1, is a front elevation of a packet of firecrackers with a creased band in place, with a part broken away to show the fuses beneath;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the packet and band around the same;
Figure 4 is a View of a section of the band folded for a lighter;
Figure 3 is another embodiment of the hand, without creases;
Figure 5 represents any ordinary bunch of firecrackers in several rows, with fuses 6, pro jecting from the adjoining ends of the firecrackers and twisted or interwoven loosely to hold the rows abutting each other.
7 is one of my hands wrapped around the bunch of firecrackers and over the fuses to provide a stiffening means for holding the bunch in packet formation and to provide protection to the fuses and prevent injury Serial No. 309,375.
thereto, with the ends 7' and 7 of the band lightly held overlapping each other by any suitable paste.
Like numerals on the different figures represent like parts.
The band is preferably formed of porous or absorbent paper, and is first treated or saturated with salt petre, or other suitable chemical solution and then dried, so that it will provide means to support a slow burning combustion, and hold the fire, such as a very slow match.
Figure 1 shows my preferred form of band, with a plurality of creases provided therein the length thereof, such as a central crease 8, and others on each side as 9 and 1.0, to facilitate the quick and ready folding of the band, or sections thereof when removed from the firecracker pack for firing. The sections of the band being easily folded along the lines of the creases, the central one as a hinge, and other creases for-additional hinges as further folds are made, until a ribbon form is produced as shown in Figure 4:, and additional folds may be made if desired to narrow the same still further.
The band as so folded is then ignited at one end and used to ignite the separate firecraclc ers, in lieu of matches, of punk sticks. The band is also preferably given some bright color by suitable chemical added to the com bustion solution when so first applied.
WVhile I have shown creases in Figure 1, to facilitate the folding, I have also shown the band Without such creases, and the same may be so formed, especially when it may be desired to roll the band into a narrow or stick formation, for a lighter.
\Vith my combination a simple and inexpensive means is provided for holding the firecrackers together, protecting the fuses, and for ignition means whenever and wher ever the firecrackers are to be used.
Having described my invention, I claim as new;
In combination, a package of firecrackers, With a band of chemically treated absorbent paper to provide slow burning combustion of the band, the band Wrapped around the package to protect the fuses and hold the filrecrackers in a bunch for transportation, With creases in the Wrapper for facilitating the folding thereof to form lighters for igniting the firecrackers after the Wrapper has been removed.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
THOMAS G. .HITT.
