Description

,1. DESPANG Sept. 3, 1929.
I LEG FORMER FOR BOOTS FOR HUNTERS AND MOTOR CYCLISTS Filed Sept 22, 1928 Patented Sept. 3, 1929.
PATENT OFFICE.
JOI-IANNES DESPANG, OF FBANKENBERG, GERMANY.
LEG FORMER FOR BOOTS FOR HUNTERS AND MOTOR CYCLIS'IS.
Application filed September 22, 1928Seria1 No. 307,574, and in Germany August 28, 1928.
This invention relates to the utilization of steel bars on laced top boots.
Up to the present it has not been possible to smooth the creases or beads which are formed in the leg of top boots, even if the leg of the boot has been made to measure.
This invention has for its object to obviate this inconvenience.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing'in which Fig. 1 shows the improved top boot in side elevation, partly in section.
Fig. 2 shows a piece out out at the rear of the leg.
The leg 1 of the top boot is made of two parts, out in accordance with the shape of the calf, and sewn together at the rear. According to the invention this seam is covered by a leather strap 2 extending over the entire height of the boot. The closing-or quilt-ingseams 3, 4 in this leather strap are close to the side edges of the leather strap so that a hollow space is formed under this strap, designed to receive a steel bar 6 which has at the top a hook 5. This hook 5 grips over the top edge of the leg of the boot and secures the steel bar in its position.
To prevent the steel bar 6 from moving in upward direction a flap-like extension 7 at the upper end of the leather strap 2 is folded over the top edge of the leg of the boot and fixed on the inner surface of the same by means of a spring button 8, so that the hook 5 of the steel bar 6 is covered and securely held in its position. I
At the lacing of the boot the flat steel bar 6 adapts itself to the shape of the calf and prevents by its resilient tension the formation of creases, folds or beads in the calf portion, said steel bar forming further an elastic support for the leg of the wearer.
I claim 1. A leg former for boots for hunters and motor-cyclists comprising in combination a leather strap covering the seam on the rear side of the leg, and fixed on the leg of the boot by quilted seams near the edges so that a hollow space is formed under said leather strap, a thin steel bar inserted in said hollow space, a hook-shaped upper end of said steel bar gripping over the top edge of the leg of the boot, a flap-like extension at the upper end of said leather strap folded over the top edge of said leg of the boot, one portion of a spring button on the inner surface of said flap-like extension, and the other part of the spring button fixed on the inner surface of said leg of the boot to securely hold this flap-like extension in the covering position.
2. A leg former for boots, including a flexible section overlying the outer surface of the rear portion of the boot and providing with the boot a hollow space extending heightwise of the boot, a rigid strip arranged in and extending throughout the length of said hollow space, the upper end of the strip embracing the upper edge of the boot, and means connected at one end to the flexible section and rcmovably connected at the other end to the boot to overlie the upper end of the rigid strip to prevent upward movement of said strip relative to the boot.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JOHANNES DESPANG.
