REGISTER AND MESSAGE CABINET.

rIhis invention relates to new and useful improven'ients in a register and message cabinet.
One object of the inventionvis to provide a device of the character described specially designed for use in hospitals to indicate whether the various physicians, connected with the hospital, are in or out, Vand to give this information both to the telephone operator behind the cabinet and to those in the hospital lobby in front of the cabinet.
Another object ofthe invention is to pron vide a cabinet of the character described wherein means is provided for the reception of messages to any physician whose name is on the cabinet, either from the operator, behind the board, or from those in the hospital lobby in front of the board.
A further feature of the invention is to provide a register and message cabinet which is capable of general use in hospitals, hotels, oliice buildings or other similar laces.
l/Vith the aboveV and other objects in view this invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, operation and arrangement of parts an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 shows a front elevation of the cabinet.

Figure 3 shows a transverse sectional view, taken on the line 3 3 of Figure 1.r
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures the numeral 1 designates the front wall board of the cabinet and the numeral 2 designates the rear wall board thereof. These boards are spaced apart and the cabinet has suitable sides 3, 3 and top and bottom 4, 4.
The cabinet has the transverse partitions 5, spaced apart, and extending from one side 3 across to the vertical partition 6, which is spaced from the other side 3 and between this last mentioned side and said partition 6 are the transverse partitions 7, spaced apart and aligned with the corresponding partitions 5, and forming the pockets. or pigeon holes 8, arranged one above the other,
said front and rear boards having the openings 9, 9 opposite said pockets, so that the pockets will be open, or accessible both in front and rear.
In the front board 1 are the transverse slots 10, opposite the respective pockets 8, and covered by the translucid panes 11 whereon are the names of the hospital physicians, hotel guests, and the like, in opaque letters.
On the rear board 2 are the card holders 12, opposite the respective pockets 8, provided to receive cards 13, containing the same names as the opposing panes 11.
In the respective comlpartments between the partitions 5 are theanchors 14, provided with light sockets 15, to receive the conventional light globes 16, which are located behind the corresponding. panes 11. The globes are wired in the electrical circuits 17 and each circuit 17 has a switch18 by means of which the circuit may be completed or broken.
In the rear wall 2 there are the colored lenses 19, opposite the respective compartments between the partitions 5.
In use when a physician enters the hospital, or a guest enters'a hotel, or an occupant enters a building, where the cabinet is installed, the proper switch 18 may be closed and the corresponding light illuminated. This will at once reveal to those in front of the cabinet that the person whose name is on the illuminated pane is in the building. The corresponding lens 19 will also be illuminated giving the same information to the telephone operator behind the cabinet. The operator can thus at once answer phone inquiries as to the presence or absence of the person' inquired about.
Upon leaving the building the said switch 18 should be opened to extinguish the corresponding lglobe 16 and this will indicate that the person sought is absent.
Written messages may be delivered to the proper pocket 8 either by the operator behind the cabinet or by anyone in front of said cabinet.
I have shown and described what I now consider the preferred form of the invention but it is .obvious that mechanical changes may be made therein and equivalents substituted for the parts shown and I reserve the right to make such changes and substitutions as may be found desirable Within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A cabinet having a Jfront Wall and a rear Wall, translucid data carrying panes in said front Wall and being separately removable and having data thereon, and colored lenses in said rear Wall, corresponding in position to said panes there being data adjacent each lens similar to the data on the corresponding pane, means in the cabinet for illuminating-each pane and its corresponding lens.
2. A cabinet having a front Wall and a rear Wall, independently removable translucid data carrying panes in said liront Wall having data thereon and colored lenses in said rear Wall corresponding, in position, to said panes there being data adjacent each lens corresponding to that of the corresponding pane, means in the cabinet for illuminating each pane and its corresponding lens, and transverse partitions separating said illuminating means.

A cabinet having a front Wall and a rear Wall, translucid data carrying panes in said iront Wall land colored lenses in said rear Wall, corresponding, in position, to said panes, there being data adjacent each lens corresponding to that on the corresponding pane, means in the cabinet for illuminating each pane and its corresponding lens, said cabinet being provided With a pocket associated With each pane and Whose position is indicated by the corresponding illuminating means.
4. A cabinet having -ront and rear Walls, a plurality of translucid data receiving means on the front Wall and a plurality of corresponding data receiving means on the rear Wall and translucid .signalling means on the rear Wall, corresponding, in position, to the respective data receiving means on the rear vvall, a plurality of illuminating means Within the cabinet, one Yassociated with each data receiving means.
5. A cabinet having front and rear Walls, a plurality of translucid data receiving means on the front Wall andtranslucid signalling means on therear Wall, correspondf ing, in position, to the respective data receiving means, there :being data yreceiving means on the rear Wall corresponding, in position, to the respective signalling means, a plurality of illuminating means Within the cabinet, one associated With each data receiving means, said cabinet being provided with pockets extending entirely therethrough and disposed opposite the respective translucid means, and Whose positions are indicated by the corresponding illuminating means.

A cabinet having iront and rear Walls, a plurality of independently removable translucid data receiving means on the front Wall and translucid data receiving and signalling means on the rear Wall, corresponding, in position, to the respective data receiving means on the front Wall, a plurality of illuminating means Within the cabinet, one associated With each data receiving means and partitions separating the respective illuminating means.

A cabinet vhaving front and rear Walls, a plurality of translucid data receiving means on the front Wall and translucid signalling means on the rear Wall corresponding, in position, to the respective data receiving meansa plurality of illuminating means Within the cabinet, one associated with each data receiving means and partitions separating the respective illuminating means, said cabinet having pockets, one disposed opposite each illuminating means, and Whose position is indicated thereby, and a plurality of translucid data receiving means on the rear Wall otl the cabinet opposite the corresponding signalling means.
8. A cabinet having front and rear Walls, transverse partitions therein separating the cabinet into separate compartments, vpockets extending through the cabinet opposite the respective compartments, each compartment having a translucid front Wall, a rear translucid lens in the rear Wall of each compartment, data receiving holders at the rear of the cabinet opposite said respective lenses, an electrical circuit in each compartment, a light globe connected into each circuit Whereby the position of the pockets relative to the respective compartments are indicated and a switch for completing` and breaking each circuit.
