MECHANICAL CI-IIMNEY SWEEPER.
Application filed August 11, 1927.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in mechanical chimney sweepers and consists in t-he novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying` drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, which are for illustrative purposes only and are therefore not drawn to scale:
Figure 1 is a front sectional elevation, illustrating the application of my invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal section.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the sweeper plate.
Referring to the drawings for a more particular description of my invention and in which drawings like parts are designated by like reference characters throughout the several views, A designates the chimney and B our mechanical chimney sweeper, as a whole. Specifically, said chimney sweeper comprises a flat metal sweeper plate l substantially corresponding inA size to the interior dimensions of the chimney, adapted to work vertically up and down in the latter and provided at its edges with wire brushes or bristles 2 which engage the inner walls or faces of the chimney and scrape or otherwise remove the soot or other incrustation therefrom when the device is in operation. As shown, the sweeper plate is provided with a rigid vertically disposed upwardly projecting hook 3, to the upper or free end of which is attached one end, as 4c, of an operating chain 5.
In carrying out our invention, this chain, after passing over a pulley 6 supported at the top of the chimney by the bracket 7 fastened in place by the thumb screws 8 or other equivalent means, passes downwardly through a central notch or recess 9 formed in one edge, as 10, of the sweeper plate and Serial No. 212,212.
winds upon the windlass l1 having a suitable crank handle 12cand suitably mounted beneath the ash cleaning door 13. The sweeper plate 1 is provided with a plurality yof transverse openings or perforations 14C through which the soot or incrustation falls during the cleaning operation.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, it is thought that the construction, operation and advantages of our invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended eX- planation.
Various changes in the form, proportions and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principles or sacrificing any of the advantages of our invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A mechanical chimney sweeper comprising a Vflat perforated sweeper plate, substantially corresponding in size to the interior dimensions of the chimney and mounted to work vertically up and down in the latter, wire brushes attached to the respective edges of the sweeper plate and engaging the inner walls or faces of the chimney, a rigid hook projecting upwardly from said sweeper plate, a pulley mounted at the top of the chimney, a windlass mounted at the bottom of the chimney and a chain attached at one end to said hook, passing upwardly over the pulley and thence downwardly and winding upon the windlasS, said sweeper plate provided in one edge with a notch or recess to receive said chain.
In testimony whereof they aifiX their signatures.
KARL FAHRENBACH. WILLIAM J. FREECK.
