UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
STOCKWELL CLARK, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
lMPROVEMENT IN CIGAR-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,555, dated January 25, 1876; application filed June 4, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STocKwELL CLARK, of the city and county of Worcester, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a cer tain Improvement in Cigar-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to he a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, mak- .in g a part of this specification.
This invention relates to an implement for holding a cigar while it is being smoked; and consists in making it of one continuous piece of common metallic wire. formed as shown in the drawings, and described in this specification.
Smokers of cigars find it both convenient and economical to have an implement for holding the cigar when it is mostly consumed, which by many is said to be the best; also, without being obliged to lay it down or throw it away when about to do something that makes it necessary to take it from the lips.
This implement enables the smoker to take the cigar in the clasp, and smoke it very close, get all the good there is in it without soiling gloves or fingers; or, if he has occasion to take it from his lips for a moment, he can clasp the cigar, place the ring on one of his fingers, and thus preserve it to resume his smoke at his leisure.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to (lescribe its construction and operation.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents the implement as it appears ready for use. Fig. 3 represents the implement as it appears with the cigar in the clasp.
I make it of any common metallic Wire, cut first in pieces about nine inches long, doubled and twisted, forming the ring 1 for the handle or to be placed on the finger. The twist.2 fastens the ring, and also confines the prongs 3 3. The ends of the prongs are bent, and form a clasp, 4 4, to conform to and clasp the cigar. A slide-ring, 5, is placed on the prongs, which closes the clasp when slipped forward, and opens them when slipped back.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A cigar-holder formed of one continuous piece of metallic wire, combining ring 1, twist 2', prongs 3 3, clasps 4 41, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth, and shown in the drawings.
Worcester, Massachusetts, June I, 1875.
