rlhis invention relates to a device for dispensing` small quantities of liquid and has an object the provision of a simple and emcicnt device for use especially as a filling station for cigar and cigarette lighters.
An object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive means for obtaining frequent small quantities of liquid. without danger of flooding the receptable being filled.
Another object is to provide a device of this kind with a safety means to prevent accidental dispensing` of the liquid when the device is not inactual use.
Another object is to provide a device for the purpose stated that simulates a miniature filling station. Y
These and other objects are attained by the means described herein and disclosed in the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of the invention, part being broken away and part shown in cross section.
Figs. 2, 3 and 4 are views of details of the invention.
The material used in construct-ing the device is preferably sheet metal. In the pres" ent embodiment of the invention there is provided a rectangular hollow base 10 which serves a container for the liquid to be dispensed. On the upper face of base 10 the pump and its housing are mounted. The forward sections 11 of the upper part of the housing, and 12 of the lower part, are integral and tixed bvmeans of the base lian to the top face of ase 10. The vertical edges of section 12 are bent outwardly to form ribs, the purpose of which will be presently apparent. Rear sections-14 of the upper part and 15 of the lower part, are likewise integral and on the top of section 14 is secured the cap 16 and imitation globe 17, while onV the bottom of section 15 is secured base flange 18, the counterpart of flange 13. These rear sections, however, are .in no way secured to base 1l). as are the forward sections. The vertical edges of section 15 are made into grooves which slip o own upon the above-mentioned ribs on section 12, this connection being indicated at 19. rThe vertical edges of sections 11 and 14 are not thus connected, but in position, are merely contiguous. ril`he iiange 2O has no operative capacity being purely ornamental. it is now apparentthat the removal of the rear sections from operative position leaves the interior of the forward sections,

and the .parts enclosed thereby, immediately accessible. These latter will now be set forth in detail.
It has been explained that base 10 is a container for the liquid to be dispensed. A vertical tube, 21, with its top portion 22 bent at an angle and protruding through perforation 23 in section 11, extends down through the top face into the bottom interior of base 10. rThe end 24 of bent portion 22 is shaped like a faucet. Below perforation 23 is a vertical slot 25 in section 11, through which an arm 26 of the U-shaped upper bent portion of a vertical rod 27, extends. Arm 26, at its end, is
again bent to afford a short horizontal portion 280. The rod 27 extends downwardly, parallel to tube 21 and farther forward in the housing. lts lower end 28 is movably enclosed by the guide 29 secured to the top face of base 10. Adjacent its upper bent portion, rod 27, passes between a pair of cross members 29() and 300, positioned betweenthe walls of section 11. A spring 31 is positioned about the rod 27 between said cross members 29 and 30 and an upper abutment 32. Adj acent its lower end 28, rod 27 has secured thereto a. plate 3.3 with a pair of perforations, 34, the edges thereof being chamfered. A guide plate 35, shaped to the inner contour of the housing 11, is positioned on rod 27 immediately adjacent the point at which said rod passes through slot 25.
in the lower section 12 is placed the pressure bulb 36 which communicates with the interior of base 10 by means ofA the metal tubing 37, the lower end of the latter being` fixed in the upper face of base 10. A small push rod 38 entends through perforation 39 in section 12, the rod having button 40 on its outer end, and abutment plate 41 on its inner end. Adjacent either end of :plate 41 are fixed the aligned parallel arms 42. ln operative position, arms 42 enclose between them the operatively positioned bulb 36. Plate 33 is secured to rod 27 adjacent the bulb 36, and when the dispensing device is not in use, serves as a stop-for the arms 42. A neck and cap 43 are provided for replenishing the liquid supply in base 10. A suitable ring or handle 44 is secured to the housing adjacent button 40 to facilitate pressure upon said button. Y v
The operation of the device is as follows:
A lighter is held against portion 280 of the rod 27 and a slight downwardpressure sufhcient to overcome the resistance of spring 31, is applied. By reference to Fig. l it is evident that this downward pressure moves the plate 33 such that its perforations, 34, come into a line with arms 42, these various parts having been properly spaced and aligned and brought into cooperative relationship. If inward pressure is now applied to button a0, the arms 42, will pass through perforations 34, allowing depression of bulb 36. Air is thus compressed in base 10 and the liquid therein contained is displaced through the outlet provided by tube 19, that is, the liquid is forced upwardly and comes out of the faucet 24, where it is directed into the lighter being held immediately beneath. When enough liquid has been thus procured the pressure on the portion 2S() is removed and the rod 27 is again moved upwardly by action of the compressed spring, 31, thus bringing the solid portion of plate into abutment with the arms l2 to prevent accidental dis pensing of the liquid. flic spring tensioned rod 27 and its plate 33 thus act as a safety lock means when the device is not in use.
Vhat is claimed is:
1. A liquid dispensing device comprising a hollow base; a slotted housing mounted thereon; a vertical tube in the housing, its lower end extending into said hollow base, its upper end being bent and extending through the housing; a rod in the housing, a portion thereof being bent and extending outside the housing through the slot therein, said exterior portion falling beneath and in line with the exterior portion of said tube; guides within the housing'for slidably retaining said rod in position; an abutment on the rod and a spring positioned on the rod between lone of said guides and the abutment; a plate with aligned perforations secured to said rod ad jacentone of its ends; a resilient bulb within the housing, said bulb communicating with the interior of the base; a push rod extending through the housing and an abutment plate on its inner end; arms on the abutment plate extending on either side of the bulb; said arms being adapted to be pushed through the perforations in said plate when said rod is pressed downwardly and to be stopped by said plate when said rod is not thus actuated.
2. ln a liquid dispensing device comprising a housing mounted on a liquid container base, the combination of a tube communicatingA with the interior of said base and the exterior of said housing; a pressure bulb in the housing in communication with the interior of said base; an abutment plate and push rod adjacent said bulb and adapted to be actuated from the exterior of the housing, arms on said abutment plate extending on either side of said bulb; a rod slidably positioned in the housing', a portion thereof extending exteriorly of the housing; a spring on said rod for normally urging it upwardly; a perforated plate fixed upon said rod adjacent said bulb and on the side opposite to said abutment Vplatey and push rod, such that downward movement of the rod aligns the perforations of said perforated plate with said arms.
3. In combination with a bulb for compressing air within a chamber, a housing; a push rod extending through the housing; a plate on the inner end of the push rod and abutting the bulb; arms on the plate extending on either side of the bulb; a slidable ver" tical rod within the housing and communicating with the exterior thereof and a spring thereon normally urging the rod upwardly; a perforated plate fixed upon the rod and abutting the opposite side of thebulb, the perforations of the perforated plate being adapted to receive the arms of said plate' when the rod is depressed and to be held out of such alignment by normal action of the said spring.

In a liquid dispensing device the combination of a liquid container, a pump means communicating with the interior of the container, an upright reciprocable member movable relative to the pump means, a pump actuating means comprising an abutment means, a stop plate movable with the upright reciprocable member and presenting an abutment face normally cooperating with the abutment means of the pump actuating means to preclude operation of the pump, said abutment face being movable from the normal cooperative position upon movement of the upright reciprocable means, thereby permitting operation of the pump. 5. In a liquid dispensing device the combination of a liquid container, a pump meansl communicating with the interior of thecontainer, a liquid discharge tubeextending into the container and terminating in an elevated nozzle for directing liquid into an article to be filled, a movable pump actuating means provided with an abutment means, an upright reciprocable member movable relative to the pump means, a step on said member upon which the article to be filled may be positioned for receiving liquid from the noz- Zle, a stop plate movable with the upright reciprocable member and having an abutment face normally in the path of movement of the abutment means of the pump actuating means, for precluding operation of the pump means, said abutment face being movable out of the said path of movement upon movement of the upright reciprocable means.
